Katakhal
Katakhal is a town and railway station in Hailakandi tehsil of Hailakandi district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of Assam. The village is named after the Barak River, Katakhal River which originates in Bhairabi after three other rivers merge. The river ends at Kalinagar Village falling into Barak river. The Hailakandi district is one of the three districts of Southern Assam in the Barak Valley. Bairabi Sairang Railway Indian Railways has already converted the current 84 km railway from Assam to Bairabi 2 km inside Mizoram. Its 51.38 km long Bairabi Sairang Railway extension from Bairabi to Sairang (20 km north of Aizawl) in Mizoram is under construction with target completion date of March 2019. Barak River
The Barak River flows through the states of Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam in India. Further it enters Bangladesh where it bifurcates into the Surma river and the Kushiyara river which converges again to become the Meghna river before forming the Ganges Delta with the Ganga and the Brahmaputra rivers and flowing into the Bay of Bengal. Hailakandi District
Hailakandi district is one of the 33 districts of Assam state in north-eastern India. It makes up the Barak Valley alongside Cachar and Karimganj. Sairang
Sairang is a census town in Aizawl district in the Indian state of Mizoram. History After the British invasion of 1871-1872, Bengali traders set up the first market place in Mizoram in Changsil on the tlawng river, when the British established control in the 1890s, the market moved up to Sairang. According to Administration report of 1922, there were 13 shops in Sairang. Up to the 1940s the road from Aizawl to Sairang was only a cart road. Improvement of the road started only in 1896. Barak Valley
The Barak Valley is located in the southern region of the Indian state of Assam. The region is named after the Barak river. The Barak valley consists of three administrative districts of Assam - namely Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. The main, largest and capital city of the Valley is Silchar.
