John Karlen
John Karlen (born John Adam Karlewicz; May 28, 1933 – January 22, 2020) was an American character actor who played multiple roles on the ABC serial ''Dark Shadows'' on and off from 1967 to 1971. In 1971, Karlen starred as the male lead in ''Daughters of Darkness''. He played Harvey Lacey, husband of Mary Beth Lacey (played by Tyne Daly), on the CBS crime series ''Cagney & Lacey'' (1982–88). Karlen reprised the role of "Willie Loomis" for a series of ''Dark Shadows'' audio dramas produced by Big Finish Productions. Life and career Karlen was born May 28, 1933, in Brooklyn, the son of Helen Agnes (née Balondowicz) and Adam Marion Karlewicz. He was of Polish descent. He enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts on a scholarship. His first acting experiences were on early television productions such as ''From These Roots'' and ''Kraft Television Theatre''. Arno Chanoch Karlen (May 7, 1937 – May 13, 2010) was an American poet, psychoanalyst, and popular science writer. He won the 1996 Rhone-Poulenc Prize for science books with ''Plague's Progress''. Biography Early life Arno Karlen was born on May 7, 1937 in Philadelphia. His parents were Jewish immigrants from modern-day Belarus and Ukraine who immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s. He was a talented child who was promoted two grades and finished high school at 15. As a teenager, he was interested in literature, science, and classical music. He studied music, and graduated from Antioch College with majors in English and French literature. Academic career After he finished college, Karlen wrote for many magazines and spent a couple of years traveling around Europe writing about food and culture. Karlen Mkrtchyan ( hy, Կառլեն Մկրտչյան; born 25 November 1988) is an Armenian professional footballer who most recently played as a midfielder for FC Pyunik in the Armenian Premier League. Career Club Pyunik Karlen Mkrtchyan is a graduate the Armenian football club school Pyunik Yerevan. Since 2007, he played for the first team. In the 2008 Armenian Premier League he played in all 28 games, and also took part in the final match against Ararat Yerevan, in which Pyunik won the Premier League. With Mkrtchyan as a member, Pyunik won the Armenian Premier League in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, the Armenian Cup in 2009 and 2010 and the Armenian Supercup in 2007, 2008 and 2010. Ernst Heinrich Karlen, C.M.M. (1 February 1922 – 28 October 2012) was a Swiss Prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. History Karlen was born in Törbel, Switzerland, and was ordained a priest on 22 June 1947, for the religious order of the Congregation of Mariannhill Missionaries. On 26 September 1968 Karlen was appointed bishop of Umtata, South Africa and ordained on 3 December 1968. Karlen was appointed bishop of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on 9 May 1974; he became Archbishop in 1994 when Bulawayo was raised to Archdiocese, and retired as such on 24 October 1997. Karlen Avetisyan ( hy, Կառլեն Ավետիսյան, November 28, 1940 – May 7, 2004) was an Armenian painter and restorer. Biography Karlen Avetisyan was born in the village of Arevshat, Soviet Armenia. In 1961 he graduated from the Fine Arts College named after P. Terlemezyan, in 1969 - the Armenian Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre. During 1970–1988 he worked as a painter-restorer at the Monuments Protection Department. Since 1977 Avetisyan had been teaching in the Fine Arts College after P. Terlemezian, during 1996-2004 he served as a professor of composition at the Fine Arts Academy of Armenia. Karlen Avetisyan died on May 7, 2004.
