The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Richard Earle Brown is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election. He represented the electoral district of Charlottetown-Victoria Park as a member of the Liberal Party. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in a 1997 by-election, following the resignation of Wayne Cheverie. He was subsequently defeated by Bob MacMillan in the 2000 provincial election, but defeated MacMillan when he ran again in the 2003 election. In June 2007, Brown was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Minister of Development and Technology. In April 2008, he became Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. In January 2009, Brown was moved to Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry. Brown was dropped from cabinet following the 2011 election. The Green Party of Prince Edward Island is a registered provincial political party and one of the three major parties in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The party was founded by Sharon Labchuk, a political organizer for the federal Green Party of Canada. 2019 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2019 Prince Edward Island general election was held to elect the members of the 66th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The vote in 26 of the 27 districts was held on 23 April 2019, while the vote for the member from Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park was deferred to 15 July due to the death of the Green Party's candidate. However, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park still voted in a referendum on electoral reform. Natalie Jameson won the deferred election in the riding. The Progressive Conservatives under new leader Dennis King won thirteen seats (including deferred seat) to form a minority government. The Greens under leader Peter Bevan-Baker won eight seats to form the Opposition. The Liberals under Premier Wade MacLauchlan were reduced to six seats and MacLauchlan lost in his own district. The ''Journal Pioneer'' is a weekly newspaper published in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Two men named Bernard and Bertram founded the ''Summerside Journal'', a weekly newspaper, in 1865. Under the leadership of A.R. Brennan, the ''Journal'' began publishing daily on September 21, 1939, in order to provide regular news of World War II. After the war, the ''Journal'' cut down to twice-weekly publication, then tri-weekly in 1949 after it closed a sister paper, ''The P.E. Island Agriculturalist''. After a fire at the press plant in 1947, the ''Journal'' was printed at the presses of its rival paper, ''The Pioneer'', which had been founded in 1876 in Alberton, moving to Summerside in 1880. The papers merged into ''The Journal-Pioneer'' in 1951, and adopted a daily (weekdays) publishing schedule in October 1957. A Saturday edition was added two years later.
