Karl Schabrod
Karl Schabrod (born 19 October 1900 in Perleberg; died 31 March 1981 in Düsseldorf) was a German communist politician. Life and work After elementary school in Perleberg, Schabrod was from 1915 to 1918 an apprentice in his father's carpentry firm. In 1919 he visited the School of Applied Arts in Leipzig for several months and then worked until 1927 in various cities as a carpenter in his learned profession. He was a member of the free trade union German Woodworkers Association (''Deutschen Holzarbeiterverband'') since 1920. From 1921 he was also a member of the '' monistic youth'' (''Monistische Jugend'') and an employee of the club magazine. Politically he belonged from 1922 initially to the SPD and joined in 1924 the KPD. For the youth organization of the party, he was active in the episode. Perleberg
Perleberg (; North Margravian: ''Perlberg'') is the capital of the district of Prignitz, located in the northwest of the German state of Brandenburg. The town received city rights in 1239 and today has about 12,000 inhabitants. Located in a mostly agricultural area, the town has a long history of troops (most notably Prussian) being stationed there and as an administrative center for local government. Geography Perleberg is located in the heart of the district of Prignitz, about halfway between the two largest German cities Berlin and Hamburg. Hermann Weber
Hermann Weber (23 August 1928 – 29 December 2014) was a German historian and political scientist. He has been described as "the man who knew everything about the German Democratic Republic". Life Early years Hermann Weber was born into a working-class family in the closing years of what would later become known as the Weimar Republic period. His father was a metal worker. When Weber was 4 years old, membership in the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) was banned by the Nazi Party. This impacted his family greatly – Weber's father was a Communist who found himself harassed and at one stage thrown into prison for a year and a half by the Gestapo. The Association of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime/Federation of Antifascists (German: ''Vereinigung der Verfolgten des Naziregimes – Bund der Antifaschistinnen und Antifaschisten'') (VVN-BdA) is a German political confederation founded in 1947 and based in Berlin. The VVN-BdA, formerly the VVN, emerged from victims' associations in Germany founded by political opponents to Nazism after the Second World War and the end of the Nazi dictatorship. During the Cold War, the VVN was the subject of political struggles between East and West Germany. In the West, the association was seen as dominated by the Communist Party ( KPD); in the East, the VVN was accused of spying. In 1953, East Germany banned the VVN and founded the Committee of Antifascist Resistance Fighters in its place.
