Kari Johannes Urpilainen (born 8 May 1951 in Kokkola) is a Finnish politician. He served as a Member of the Parliament of Finland from 1983 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2003, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). Jutta Pauliina Urpilainen (born 4 August 1975 in Lapua) is a Finnish politician. She was the first female chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Finland, which she led from 2008 to 2014. She was the Minister of Finance of Finland from 2011 to 2014. As of 1 December 2019, she is a commissioner in charge of international partnerships in the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen. Early life and education Born in Lapua, Southern Ostrobothnia, Urpilainen is the daughter of former politician Kari Urpilainen. She studied at the University of Jyväskylä, where she graduated as a Master of Education in 2002. During her undergraduate studies, she spent an Erasmus year in Vienna.
