Kari Nissen Brodtkorb
Kari Irene Nissen Brodtkorb (born 1942) is a Norwegian architect and educator. Recognized as one of Norway's leading housing designers, in 1994 she was awarded the cherished Houen Foundation Award for her ''Stranden'' complex located on Oslo's Aker Brygge. Brodtkorb taught at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in the early 1990s. Biography Born on 3 March 1942 in Oslo, Brodtkorb was the daughter of the business administrator Roald Nissen and Ragnhild Marie Heiding, a secretary. On graduating from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1965, she worked as an architect for Harald Hille's firm (1966–71) and for Anker & Hølaas (1977–85) where she became a partner. From 1985, she ran her own firm in Bærum. She adopted an innovative approach to residential architecture, combining high engineering standards with distinctively attractive designs. Houen Foundation Award
The Houen Foundation Award ( no, Houens fonds diplom) is Norway's most important award for architecture. It was established in 1893 by Anton Christian Houen (1823–1894). A successful merchant and businessman, Houen established several philanthropic legacies and funds in culture and research. The Houen Foundation Award is awarded to buildings that are examples of "outstanding, independently completed works of architecture" in recognition of an architect's highest achievement. Aker Brygge
Aker Brygge is a neighbourhood in central Oslo, Norway. Since the 1980s and 1990s it has been a popular area for shopping, dining, and entertainment, as well as a high-end residential area. It was previously an industrial area. Location Aker Brygge is located just west of downtown on the westside of Pipervika, an arm of the Oslo Fjord, on the former ship yard of Akers Mekaniske Verksted, which ceased operations in 1982. The Norwegian Institute of Technology (Norwegian: ''Norges tekniske høgskole'', NTH) was a science institute in Trondheim, Norway. It was established in 1910, and existed as an independent technical university for 58 years, after which it was merged into the University of Trondheim as an independent college. Smestad is a historically wealthy area in the borough Vestre Aker in Oslo, Norway. It is named after the Smestad Mansion and family, and was parcelled out for residences after the tram line was built in 1912. The district is located between north of Hoff (station), Hoff and Skøyen, east of Montebello, Norway, Montebello in Ullern, west of the Frogner Park and south of Heggeli (station), Heggeli.
