Karen Forkel
Karen Forkel (born 24 September 1970 in Wolfen) is a German track and field athlete and an Olympic medal winner. In the 1990s she was among the world's best javelin throwers. Her biggest success came in the 1992 Summer Olympics when she took the bronze medal with a throw of 66.86 meters. Her personal best throw with the new-type-javelin was 65.17 metres, achieved in July 1999 in Erfurt. This ranks her fifth among German javelin throwers, behind Christina Obergföll, Steffi Nerius, Tanja Damaske and Linda Stahl. With the old javelin type she threw 70.20 metres in May 1991 in Halle. This ranks her fifth among German old-type-javelin throwers, behind Petra Felke (who held the world record), Antje Kempe, Silke Renk and Beate Koch. Forkel represented SC Chemie Halle, which after the German reunification was renamed SV Halle. During her career she was 1.72 meters tall and weighed 63 kilograms. Wolfen, Germany
Wolfen () is a town in the district Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 July 2007 it is part of the town Bitterfeld-Wolfen. It is situated approximately 6 kilometres northwest of Bitterfeld, and 20 kilometres south of Dessau. History The first documentary mention of Wolfen was as ''Wulffen'' in 1400 in a fee (feudal tenure). The place name was named after a founder whose name began with ''Wolf''. Antje Zöllkau
Antje Zöllkau (née Kempe, born 22 June 1963) is a German former javelin thrower who represented East Germany. The 1982 European silver medallist, her best javelin throw of 72.16 metres in 1984, ranks her in the world all-time top 10 for the Pre-1999 old model javelin. Career Born Antje Kempe in Saalfeld, Thuringia, she won the silver medals at the 1981 European Junior Championships and the 1982 European Championships. Petra Felke
Petra Meier ( Felke; born 30 July 1959) is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. Representing East Germany, she became the Olympic Champion in 1988 and broke the world record four times between 1985 and 1988. She is the only woman to throw a javelin 80 metres or more, with her world record of 80.00 m (262 ft 5 1⁄2 in). This throw was the world record from 1988 until 1999, when a new javelin design was implemented. She also won the javelin title at the 1989 IAAF World Cup and silver medals at the World Championships in 1987 and 1991. Linda Stahl (born 2 October 1985) is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. Career She won gold at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain, throwing a then personal best throw of 66.81 metres. Stahl finished 3rd at the Europeans in 2012 with a result of 63.69 m. She also took the bronze medal at the Olympics in London with a season's best throw of 64.91 m. In 2013, she was 4th at the World Championships in Moscow with a result of 64.78 m. In 2014, she took the bronze at the Europeans in Zürich after leading the competition till the 5th round, and also improved her personal best to 67.32 m. Christina Obergföll (; born 22 August 1981) is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. She was World Champion in 2013. Her personal best throw of 70.20 m is the German record. It also ranks her fifth on the overall list. Career At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, Obergföll won the silver medal with a European record (70.03m) by finishing second behind Osleidys Menéndez, who set a new world record at the same event.
