West Virginia Senate
The West Virginia Senate is the upper house of the West Virginia Legislature. There are seventeen senatorial districts. Each district has two senators who serve staggered four-year terms. Although the Democratic Party held a supermajority in the Senate as recently as 2015, Republicans now dominate in the chamber, and will hold 31 seats to the Democrats' three beginning in the next session. West Virginia's 4th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Eric Tarr and Amy Grady. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 4 is based in Jackson County, Mason County, and parts of Putnam and Roane Counties to the north of Charleston. It includes the communities of Spencer, Ravenswood, Ripley, Point Pleasant, New Haven, Hurricane, Winfield, and Teays Valley. Mitch Carmichael
Mitchell Carmichael (born April 15, 1960) is an American politician. He is a former Republican member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 4 from 2012 until his defeat in 2020. Prior to his service in the Senate, Carmichael served in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 12 from 2000 through 2012. Carmichael was also a candidate for Governor of West Virginia in the 2011 West Virginia gubernatorial special election. As President of the state Senate from January 2017 to January 2021, he held the title Lieutenant Governor of West Virginia. After his defeat in 2020, Governor Jim Justice appointed Carmichael as West Virginia's economic development director. Fort Belvoir is a United States Army installation and a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States.
