Karen Asatrian
Karen Asatrian ( hy, Կարեն Ասատրյան; born June 23, 1972) is an Armenian Jazz, Armenian jazz pianist and a composer. His music is a synthesis of contemporary jazz and Armenian folk music. The recent album "Noor" with Karen Asatrian and Armenian Spirit band is composed of Armenian traditional songs rearranged with a contemporary jazz style. Early life Karen Asatrian received his first education in classical violin and piano at the Tchaikovsky Music School, Yerevan, Tchaikovsky Music School in Yerevan. He then continued his studies of both instruments and musical composition at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. In 1999, he moved to Carinthia, Carinthia, Austria, where he finalized his jazz piano studies under the direction of Harry Neuwirth, with distinction. In 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Instrumental (Vocal) Pedagogy Studies and received a state teaching certification for jazz piano. Armenian Jazz
Yerevan's first jazz band was formed in 1936, by composer and trumpeter Tsolak Vardazaryan. In 1938, composer Artemi Ayvazyan founded the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra, the first in the Soviet Union. The orchestra's first drummer Robert Yolchyan became an important artist of Soviet and Armenian jazz, developing his own style over time and continuing to play and give master-classes until his death in early 2000s. Other jazz bands were founded in Nairi Cinema, Yerevan Park of Communars, and others. In 1954, Konstantin Orbelyan organized an Estrada quintet for Armenian Radio. Tchaikovsky Music School, Yerevan
The Tchaikovsky Secondary Music School ( hy, Երևանի Չայկովսկու անվան երաժշտական դպրոց), is a secondary school in Yerevan, Armenia which opened in 1939. The school is a specialized secondary school where a total of 600 students are enrolled in a 12-year education, while at the same time receiving 2 certificates of general and vocational education. Over 70 percent of the school's alumni attend the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. Samul Nori
Samul nori (사물놀이) is a genre of percussion music that originated in Korea. The word ''samul'' means "four objects", while ''nori'' means "play". Samul nori is performed with four traditional Korean musical instruments. They are ''Kkwaenggwari'' (꽹과리), a small gong; '' Jing'' (징), a larger gong; ''Janggu'' (장구), an hourglass-shaped drum; and '' Buk'' (북), a barrel drum similar to the bass drum. George Garzone
George Garzone (born September 23, 1950) is a saxophonist and jazz educator from Boston, Massachusetts. Biography Garzone is a member of the Fringe, a jazz trio founded in 1972 that includes bassist John Lockwood and drummer Bob Gullotti. The group has released several albums. Garzone has appeared on over 20 recordings. He began on tenor saxophone when he was six, played in a family band, and attended music school in Boston. He toured Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performed with Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Danilo Pérez, Rachel Z, and Bob Weir and Ratdog. Jamaaladeen Tacuma (born Rudy McDaniel; June 11, 1956) is an American free jazz bassist born in Hempstead, New York. He was a bandleader on the Gramavision label and worked with Ornette Coleman during the 1970s and 1980s, mostly in Coleman's Prime Time band. Armenian Music Awards was an annual music awards ceremony first held at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California on October 7, 1998. It was created and produced for the first eight years by Peter Bahlawanian who wanted to support Armenian artists and make Armenian culture. The awards consist of several categories of varying 20 to 30 from year to year. Numerous artists perform live throughout the evening.
