The karate competitions at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin took place between 28 June and 29 June at the Edip Buran Sport Hall. Athletes competed in 10 weight categories. Turkey was the most successful nation with 6 gold and 2 silver medals. Edip Buran Arena
The Edip Buran Arena ( tr, Edip Buran Spor Salonu), formerly Yenişehir Belediyesi Sports Hall ( tr, Yenişehir Belidyesi Spor Salonu), is a multi-sport indoor arena at Yenişehir district of Mersin, Turkey. Built in 1971, it is owned by the Youth Services and Sports Directoriate of Mersin. The sports hall has a seating capacity of 1,750. It was renovated for the 2013 Mediterranean Games, and the new sports hall went on January 20, 2013 in service. The venue is suitable for events of basketball, fencing, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling etc. With the promotion of Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi men's basketball team's to Turkish Basketball League in the 2005-06 season, the sports hall became a basketball league venue. The venue is also home to the women's side of the Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi S.K., which plays in the Turkish Women's Basketball League (TKBL). Luigi Busà (born 9 October 1987) is an Italian karateka. He is a two-time gold medalist at the World Karate Championships and a five-time gold medalist at the European Karate Championships. He represented Italy at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, winning the first-ever gold medal in the men's kumite 75 kg event. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's kumite 50kg event at the World Karate Championships and a two-time gold medalist in this event at the European Karate Championships. Serap Özçelik Arapoğlu (born February 18, 1988) is a Turkish karateka, who competes in the kumite 50–53 kg divisions. She won a world title in 2014 and a European title in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Özçelik took up karate in 2000 at Eyüp, Istanbul, and in 2005 was included to the national team. She is a member of EGO Sport Club in Ankara.
