Karasburg
Karasburg ( naq, ǀNomsoros, old name af, Kalkfontein, literally "carst spring") is a town of 4,000 inhabitants in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia and the district capital of the Karasburg Constituency, Karasburg electoral constituency. It lies at the heart of the southern Namibian sheep farming industry. Location There are three main routes that lead into Karasburg. From Grünau, Namibia, Grünau in the west, Onseepkans in the south and the B3 road (Namibia), B3 national road that leads to the South African border in the east. The town lies south of Windhoek, north of Cape Town and 110 km west of the Ariamsvlei border post. Karasburg is the only relatively large town south of Keetmanshoop in Namibia. Economy Karasburg's main industry is sheep farming, but it is also an important truck stop for transport vehicles streaming into Namibia from the South African border. Karasburg Constituency
Karasburg was a constituency in the ǁKaras Region of Namibia. The main towns were Karasburg and Grünau; other populated places included Warmbad and Aussenkehr, and the border settlements of Ariamsvlei and Noordoewer. The Orange River formed part of the southern border of this constituency. Economic activities in this constituency were mainly small-stock farming, and near the Orange River, grape production. It had a population of 16,470 in 2011, up from 15,758 in 2001. Ariamsvlei
Ariamsvlei is a settlement of about 500 people in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia and a small border post between Namibia and South Africa, located east of Karasburg on the national road B3. It lies at 804 metres (2641 ft) above sea level. The border post with South Africa lies to the east of the settlement; however, the actual border (at the 20th meridian east) lies further east along the B3, near the South African settlement of Nakop. South Africa's border post (also named Nakop) is located a further away. Constituencies Of Namibia
Each of the 14 regions of Namibia is further subdivided into electoral constituencies. The size of the constituencies varies with the size and population of each region. There are currently 121 constituencies in Namibia. The most populous constituency according to the 2011 census was Rundu Urban in the Kavango West region with 63,431 people; the least populous was Okatyali in the Oshana region with 3,187 people. The administrative division of Namibia is tabled by '' Delimitation Commissions'' and accepted or declined by the National Assembly. ǁKaras Region
The ǁKaras Region (pronounced , with a lateral click) is the southernmost and least densely populated of the 14 regions of Namibia; its capital is Keetmanshoop. The name assigned to the region reflects the prominence of the Karas mountain range in its southern part. The ǁKaras region contains the municipality of Keetmanshoop, the towns Karasburg, Lüderitz and Oranjemund, and the self-governed villages Aroab, Berseba, Bethanie, Koës and Tses. ǁKaras' western border is the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Its location in Namibia's south means that it shares a long border in the south and east with the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), formerly the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), is an amalgamation of political parties in Namibia, registered as one singular party for representation purposes. In coalition with the United Democratic Front, it formed the official opposition in Parliament until the parliamentary elections in 2009. Namibian Local And Regional Elections, 2015
Namibia held elections for their local and regional councils on 27 November 2015. Ballots were cast using electronic voting. Electoral system Elections to regional councils are held using the first-past-the-post electoral system. Voters in each constituency elect one councillor to represent them on their regional council. Local authority councillors are elected by a system of proportional representation. Results Regional and local elections taken together elected 199 woman out of the 499 available seats, partly because affirmative action for women is required by law in local authority elections.
