Karachi Express
''Karachi Express'' ( ur, ) is a passenger train operated daily by Pakistan Railways between Karachi and Lahore. The trip takes approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes to cover a published distance of , traveling along a stretch of the Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line. History The Karachi Express began in 1943 and was originally between Karachi and Peshawar. Shortly after, the route was shortened between Karachi to Lahore. In 1999, Pakistan Railways began running non-stop, with only one technical stop at Khanpur. By 2003, economy class coaches were added and ceased to be a non-stop train. During the PPP government in Pakistan, 2008–2013, the train service was almost completely finished due to shortage of power vans and locomotives. During much of 2012, the train was only running with economy class coaches and coupled with Millat Express from Khanewal onwards to Karachi. Karachi Cantonment Railway Station
Karachi Cantonment Railway Station ( ur, , Sindhi: ڪراچي ڇانوڻي ريلوي اسٽيشن) (often abbreviated as Karachi Cantt.) is one of the busiest and principal railway stations in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is situated near Dr. Daudpota Road, Saddar. History It was earlier known as Frere Street Station. Construction of the station began in 1896 and was completed in 1898 at a total cost of Rs. 80,000. Sukkur District ( sd, سکر ضلعو, ur, ) is a district in Sindh Province in Pakistan. It is divided into 5 administrative townships (''tehsils'', also called "talukas"), namely: Sukkur City, New Sukkur, Rohri, Saleh Pat and Pano Aqil. Mehrabpur ( ur, ), ( Sindhi:Ù…Øرابپور), is a city in the Naushahro Firoz District in Sindh province of Pakistan. The city is administratively subdivided into 8 Union Councils. It has a busy railway station on the main railway line between Karachi and Lahore. It is a junction station with a disused branch line to Naushahro Feroze. Mehrabpur Train Derailment
The Mehrabpur derailment was a fatal railway accident that occurred shortly after 02:00 local time on 19 December 2007 near the town of Mehrabpur in the Sindh province of Pakistan. Incident The train, "Karachi Express", was an express service from Karachi to Lahore, and was packed with passengers returning home for the Eid ul-Adha Islamic holiday. At around 2:25 a.m. local time, fourteen of the train's sixteen carriages left the tracks, some being mangled by the crash, others simply sliding down an embankment into the water. Tezgam
Tezgam ( ur, ) is a daily express train service between Karachi and Rawalpindi in Pakistan. ''Tezgam'' means "fast runner". It is one of the oldest and popular trains of Pakistan. It was started in 1950s between Karachi and Peshawar. Later its route was shortened to Karachi and Rawalpindi. Tezgam has Economy, AC Business and AC Sleeper accommodation. It covers distance from Karachi to Rawalpindi in 25 hours and 30 minutes. On 31 October 2019, A Tezgam express train caught fire after a gas cylinder brought on to the train by a passenger exploded. The fire engulfed three carriages, killing at least 74 people and injuring 40 more. An investigation has begun. The trip takes approximately 23 hours and 30 minutes to cover a published distance of , traveling along the Rohri–Chaman Railway Line, Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line, Khanewal–Wazirabad Branch Line and the Shahdara Bagh–Sangla Hill Branch Line. History The Akbar Express was previously known as the ''Quetta Express''. In August 2013, it was renamed to Akbar Express in honour of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, a Baloch nationalist leader and former head of the Jamhoori Wattan Party. Ghotki Train Crash
The Ghotki rail crash occurred on 13 July 2005, at around 3:40am local time (2240 July 12 UTC) near Ghotki, Pakistan. No. 24 Dn train (''Quetta Express'') stopped at the station of Sarhad was hit from behind by the following ''Karachi Express'' (No. 16 Dn) train, causing several cars to derail; these were then hit by a third train running in the opposite direction (''Tezgam''). A total of seventeen train cars, carrying over 3000 passengers, were wrecked. Estimates of the death toll ranged as high as over 130. It was the worst train accident in Pakistan in fifteen years.
