Karachi Cantonment Railway Station ( ur, , Sindhi: ڪراچي ڇانوڻي ريلوي اسٽيشن) (often abbreviated as Karachi Cantt.) is one of the busiest and principal railway stations in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is situated near Dr. Daudpota Road, Saddar. History It was earlier known as Frere Street Station. Construction of the station began in 1896 and was completed in 1898 at a total cost of Rs. 80,000. The present building of Karachi Cantt station has been declared a protected heritage site by the Government of Sindh. Facilities Karachi Cantonment Station is equipped with all basic facilities. The station has current and advance reservation offices for Pakistan Railways as well as cargo and parcel facilities. Retail shops are found on platform 1, including restaurants such as Rehmat-e-Shereen and Pizza Hut. Saddar ( ur, ), also known as Saddar Bazaar, is a neighbourhood in Karachi, Pakistan. The locality was developed as the primary commercial district during the period of British-era rule in Karachi. As a result, Saddar contains the large concentration of colonial-era architecture in Karachi. Karachi City Station ( ur, ), formerly McLeod Station, is one of two main Karachi railway terminals along with the Karachi Cantonment railway station, Karachi Cantonment station. Karachi City Station is located on I. I. Chundrigar Road, adjacent to Habib Bank Plaza, in Karachi, Pakistan. This station is headquarters of the Pakistan Railways - Pakistan Railways#Divisions, Karachi Division. History Karachi City Station was first established along the southern edge of McLeod Road (now I. I. Chundrigar Road) as the southern terminus point of the Scinde Railway, which was established in March 1855. A railway line was to be constructed between Karachi and Kotri and work on the Karachi terminus commenced in April 1858. On 13 May 1861, the line was opened to the public, and was the first railway line for public traffic between Karachi and Kotri, a distance of 108 miles (174 km).
