Kaparna
Kaparna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team that competed in the Swedish speedway leagues from 1949 to 2007. The team were last based at the Arendal Speedway Track, in Arendal, west of Gothenburg on the island of at Hisingen in Sweden. They were four times Swedish Speedway Team Championship, league champions of Sweden. Season summary History 1934 to 1957 A speedway track called the Sävedalsbanan was constructed to the east of Gothenburg in 1934. Before World War II it held meetings consisting of individual competition. In 1949, a team called GEMA Goteborg (Gothenburg Motor Alliance) joined the relatively new Swedish Speedway Team Championship that had been inaugurated the previous season. The team finished 9th during the 1949 Swedish speedway season. The following season in 1950 Swedish speedway season, 1950, the team changed its name to Kaparna (the hijackers) and also formed a reserve side known as Gastarna. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Ove Fundin
Ove Fundin (born 23 May 1933) is a Swedish former professional motorcycle speedway rider. He competed in the Speedway World Championships from 1951 to 1970. Fundin is notable for winning the Speedway World Championship Final five times (1956, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1967), a record bettered only by Ivan Mauger and fellow Swede Tony Rickardsson who each won six World Championships. He finished runner-up in the championship 3 times (1957–59) and was third in 1962, 1964 and 1965 meaning that from his first win in 1956 until his last in 1967, Fundin did not finish lower than a podium place in a record eleven World Finals. He was known by the nickname of the "Flying Fox" or just "the Fox" because of his red hair. In 2013, Fundin was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. The 1958 Swedish speedway season was the 1958 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1958 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 3 October in Stockholm. Rune Sörmander won the Swedish Championship for the second time. Junior Championship The 1958 season saw the introduction of the first edition of the Junior Championship. The event was won by Agnar Stenlund. Team Team Championship Dackarna won division 1 for the second consecutive season and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. The team retained the 1957 Championship winning rider and Swedish champion Rune Sörmander. Arne Carlsson (born c. 1939) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. The 1950 Swedish speedway season was the 1950 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1950 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 20 October, in Stockholm. Helge Brinkeback won the Swedish Championship. Team Team Championship Filbyterna won division 1 and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the second time. Piraterna won the A division of the newly created second-tier league. Saxarna won the B division and Vetlanda won the C division. Name changes this season included; SMK Stockholm who became Monarkerna, Smålänningarna who became Dackarna and GEMA who became Kaparna.
