Geography District 12 covers Allen County, Kansas, Allen, Anderson County, Kansas, Anderson, Franklin County, Kansas, Franklin, and Linn County, Kansas, Linn Counties and parts of Bourbon County, Kansas, Bourbon and Miami County, Kansas, Miami Counties along the eastern edge of the state. Kansas Senate District 12 (2010)
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The tribe's name (natively ') is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning. For thousands of years, what is now Kansas was home to numerous and diverse Native American tribes. Tribes in the eastern part of the state generally lived in villages along the river valleys. Wellsville, Kansas
Wellsville is a city in Franklin County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,953. History Wellsville was platted in 1870. The community was named after D.L. Wells, a railroad construction engineer. The first post office in Wellsville was established in October 1870. On January 9, 1894, baseball star Charlie Bennett went hunting with pitcher John Clarkson. Bennett got off the train in Wellsville to speak to an acquaintance; when he tried to reboard, he slipped and fell under the train's wheels. Bennett lost both legs in the accident. The 2012 United States presidential election in Kansas took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Kansas voters chose six electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden, against Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan. Kris William Kobach ( ; born March 26, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who is the Attorney General of Kansas. He previously served as the 31st Secretary of State of Kansas. The 2018 Kansas gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next Governor of Kansas. Democratic nominee Laura Kelly won the election, defeating Republican nominee Kris Kobach and independent candidate Greg Orman. Incumbent Republican Governor Sam Brownback was term-limited and could not seek reelection to a third consecutive term.
