Kansas's 11th Senate District
Kansas's 11th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican Party (United States), Republican John Skubal since 2017; Skubal was defeated in the 2020 Kansas Senate election, 2020 primary election by Kansas House of Representatives, State Representative Kellie Warren. Geography District 11 covers much of Leawood, Kansas, Leawood and parts of eastern Overland Park, Kansas, Overland Park in the Johnson County, Kansas, Johnson County suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City. The district is located entirely within Kansas's 3rd congressional district, and overlaps with the 8th, 19th, 20th, 27th, 28th, and 48th districts of the Kansas House of Representatives. Kansas () is a U.S. state, state in the Midwestern United States, Midwestern United States. Its Capital city, capital is Topeka, Kansas, Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita, Kansas, Wichita. Joy Koesten (born December 30, 1954) is an American politician who served in the Kansas House of Representatives from the 28th district from 2017 to 2019. Joy Koesten and her husband launched a campaign to fund an Endowed Professorship in Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children’s Mercy Hospital supporting research into adolescent depression and suicide prevention. On August 7, 2018, she was defeated in the Republican primary for the 28th district by Kellie Warren. On December 13, 2018, she announced she was changing her party affiliation from Republican to Democratic. The 2018 Kansas gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next Governor of Kansas. Democratic nominee Laura Kelly won the election, defeating Republican nominee Kris Kobach and independent candidate Greg Orman. Pat Colloton (born September 18, 1944) is a former Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 28th district. She served from 2004 to 2013. Colloton, who has worked as an attorney since 1970, received her Bachelor's in Chemistry and Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, and her JD from UW Law School.
