Kanimbla, Queensland
Kanimbla is a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Kanimbla had a population of 2,670 people. Geography Kanimbla is west of the city centre. The suburb straddles the upper reaches of Moody's Creek and is bordered to the north by the Cairns Western Arterial Road (state route 91). The main road that goes through Kanimbla is Ramsey Drive. Along the middle of the northern boundary is Whites Gap. In the south west elevations reach heights greater than 500 m towards the summit of Mooroobool Peak. Cairns Regional Council announced in 2013 that land had been purchased in Kanimbla to build a detention basin to alleviate seasonal flooding in suburbs downstream. Cairns Western Arterial Road
The Cairns Western Arterial Road is a numbered state route in the Cairns Region of Queensland, Australia. The road provides a primary access route across the Brinsmead Gap for suburbs west of the Whitfield Range, and is one of two major crossings over the Barron River. In 2007, it was estimated that 24,000 vehicles per day used the road. After proceeding north-west for 2.4 km from the Bruce Highway at Bungalow, the dual carriageway road alignment follows Reservoir Road west of a signalised intersection with Pease Street in the suburb of Manoora. A number of suburban streets connect directly to the arterial between here and Enmore Road. West of Enmore Road, the route rises over high terrain. Trinity Bay (Queensland)
Trinity Bay is a large bay in the Coral Sea off the east coast of Far North Queensland, Australia. The Mossman River discharges into the bay. At one time the Mulgrave River also entered the bay until geological changes resulted in its mouth forming further south at Port Constantine. The bay was named after the Christian holy day Trinity Sunday by Lieutenant James Cook on 10 June 1770. At its southern end is the city of Cairns. HMAS ''Kanimbla'' was a passenger ship converted for use as an armed merchant cruiser and landing ship infantry during World War II. Built during the mid-1930s as the passenger liner MV ''Kanimbla'' for McIlwraith, McEacharn & Co, the ship operated in Australian waters until 1939, when she was requisitioned for military service, converted into an armed merchant cruiser, and commissioned in the Royal Navy as HMS ''Kanimbla''. Initially used to board and take control of merchant vessels belonging to Occupied Europe and operating in Asian waters, ''Kanimbla'' led the raid to capture the Iranian port of Bandar Shahpur in August 1941, and was present during the covert Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour in 1942. Yidiny People
The Yidiny (also spelt Yidindj, Yidinji or Yidiñ), are an Aboriginal Australian people in Far North Queensland. Their language is the Yidiny language. Language The last fluent speakers of Yidiny were Tilly Fuller (d. October 1974), George Davis (b.1919), Dick Moses (b.1898) and his sister Ida Burnett of White Rock. A substantial part of the language has been analysed and recorded by Robert M. W. Dixon. Country The Yidiny lands were in lowland rainforest areas, stretching from Yarrabah down to the south, where their borders met those of the Ngajanji and the Wanyurr.
