Kandis (Kingdom)
Kandis ( Mandailing Batak: ᯄ᯦ᯊᯚ᯲) was an ancient Minangkabau kingdom based in the western-central region of Sumatra island, which is part of the modern-day Indonesian regions of West Sumatra, Jambi, and Riau. The kingdom of Kandis is estimated to have been established since 1st century BC, believed to be the oldest Minangkabau kingdom in Sumatra, as well as the Indonesian Archipelago in general. Rock Candy
Rock candy or sugar candy, also called rock sugar, or crystal sugar, is a type of confection composed of relatively large sugar crystals. This candy is formed by allowing a supersaturated solution of sugar and water to crystallize onto a surface suitable for crystal nucleation, such as a string, stick, or plain granulated sugar. Heating the water before adding the sugar allows more sugar to dissolve thus producing larger crystals. Crystals form after 6 to 7 days. Food coloring may be added to the mixture to produce colored candy. ''Garcinia forbesii'', commonly known as the rose kandis or kandis, is a small to medium-sized tree in the family Clusiaceae (Guttiferae). The Botanical nomenclature, specific epithet (''forbesii'') honors Scottish naturalist Henry Ogg Forbes. Distribution ''Garcinia forbesii'' is found in Southeast Asia and is native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and southern Thailand.
