Kanding Light Rail Station
Kanding () is a light rail station of the Danhai light rail, which is operated by New Taipei Metro. It is the northwestern terminus of the line, and is located in Tamsui District, New Taipei, Taiwan. Tamsui District
Tamsui District (Hokkien POJ: ''Tām-chúi''; Hokkien Tâi-lô: ''Tām-tsuí''; Mandarin Pinyin: ''Dànshuǐ'') is a seaside district in New Taipei, Taiwan. It is named after the Tamsui River; the name means "fresh water". The town is popular as a site for viewing the sun setting into the Taiwan Strait. Though modest in size (population 184,192), it has a large role in Taiwanese culture. Name Historical Originally settled by the Ketagalan aborigines, the location was called ''Hoba'', meaning "stream's mouth". ''Hoba'' was loaned into Taiwanese Hokkien as ''Hobe''. Historical works in English have referred to the place as "Hobe", "Hobé", or "Hobe Village". The Spanish arrived in the 17th century and called this place ''Casidor'' and the Tamsui River ''Kimalon''. New Taipei City is a Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality located in northern Taiwan. The city is home to an estimated population of 3,974,683 as of 2022, making it the most populous city of Taiwan, and also the second largest special municipality by area, behind Kaohsiung. New Taipei Metro () is a transit system serving New Taipei, Taiwan, operated by . The Danhai light rail is under operation, while the Ankeng light rail and the Sanying line under construction. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). SET News
SET News (SETN; ) is a 24-hour news channel of the Sanlih E-Television in Taiwan, launched in March 1998. SET News and sister channel SET iNews are considered media outlets leaning towards the Pan-Green coalition. SET News is available on YouTube with its Digital on-screen graphic, DOG reading ''Sanlih LIVE Hsinwen'' (). Since April 2022, this stream is available only outside Taiwan, a move also made by competitors EBC News and TVBS apparently because of dissatisfaction of the cable operators; SET replaced it with a non-geoblocked stream of sister channel SET iNews labeled as ''Sanlih+'' (三立+). Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. In the United Kingdom the use of island platforms is relatively common when the railway line is in a cutting or raised on an embankment, as this makes it easier to provide access to the platform without walking across the tracks.
