Kampong Glam Group Representation Constituency (GRC) is a former four member Group Representation Constituency in the Central Business District of Singapore, only in 1991 election. Kampong Glam GRC was co-led by Loh Meng See and Yeo Ning Hong. History The GRC was formed during the 1991 Singaporean general election by merging four existing four Single Member Constituencies (SMC), Kampong Glam SMC, Cairnhill SMC, Moulmein SMC and Kim Seng SMC. During the 1991 Singaporean general election, a People's Action Party team led by Loh Meng See and Yeo Ning Hong contested the GRC and was elected uncontested. Kampong Glam Group Representative Constituency
A kampong (''kampung'' in Malay and Indonesian) is the term for a village in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and a "port" in Cambodia. Yeo Ning Hong
Yeo Ning Hong ( zh, s=杨林丰, p=Yáng Línfēng; born 3 November 1943) is a Singaporean chemist and former politician who served as Minister for Defence between 1991 and 1994, and Minister for Communications between 1984 and 1991. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Kim Seng SMC between 1980 and 1991, and later the Kim Seng division of Kampong Glam GRC between 1991 and 1996 Education Yeo studied in University of Singapore and also graduated with a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He was also a research fellow of Christ's College, Cambridge between 1970 and 1973. Kreta Ayer–Tanglin Group Representation Constituency was a former four-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in southwestern Singapore. People's Action Party
The People's Action Party (abbreviation: PAP) is a major conservative centre-right political party in Singapore and is one of the three contemporary political parties represented in Parliament, alongside the opposition Workers' Party (WP) and Progress Singapore Party (PSP). Initially founded as a traditional centre-left party in 1954, the leftist faction was soon expelled from the party in 1961 by Lee Kuan Yew in the midst of Singapore's merger with Malaysia, desiring to move the party's ideology towards the centre after its first electoral victory in 1959. Kampong Glam Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) in Kampong Glam, Singapore. It existed as Kampong Glam Constituency from 1959 to 1988 then it was renamed as Kampong Glam Single Member Constituency during political reform in 1988. The SMC lasted another term till 1991 when it was absorbed into Kampong Glam Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
