Kamila Nasr
Kamila Nasr is a Canadian singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Montreal, Quebec. She is the feature subject of director Terry Stone's 2007 film ''Virtuoso'', a Canadian documentary on the Theremin. In September 2012, she released her solo album ''Paint the Moon'' under her stage name Kamila and as an independent label. From 2007 to 2012 Nasr performed as the lead singer for the 15-piece Beijing-based Samba band, Sambasia. Nasr and Sambasia performed at the ''Evening of the Era'' concert alongside renowned Chinese rock musician Cui Jian at the Worker's Stadium in Beijing in January 2008, In 2008 she founded the bossa nova quartet Girassol, and performed at venues in China, including Mao Live and OT Lounge as well as the Brazilian, Chilean and French embassies. Theremin
The theremin (; originally known as the ætherphone/etherphone, thereminophone or termenvox/thereminvox) is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer (who is known as a thereminist). It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The instrument's controlling section usually consists of two metal antenna (radio), antennas which sense the relative position of the thereminist's hands and control oscillation, oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (Loudness, volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplifier, amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. The sound of the instrument is often associated with wikt:eerie, eerie situations. Cui Jian
Cui Jian ( zh, c=崔健, p=Cuī Jiàn, ; born 2 August 1961) is a Beijing-based Chinese singer-songwriter, trumpeter and guitarist. Affectionately called "Old Cui" (), he pioneered Chinese rock music. Winnipeg Folk Festival
The Winnipeg Folk Festival is a nonprofit charitable organization with an annual summer folk music festival held in Birds Hill Provincial Park, near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The festival features a variety of artists and music from around the world and is sure to include a number of local artists. American School Hong Kong (ASHK) is a co-educational American international school located a6 Ma Chung Road in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong.
