Kalum King
Kalum King is a Gaelic football player from County Down. He played for the Down senior inter-county football team and with his local club, Bryansford. King first played for Down in 2004, when he played a role in Down's promotion run in the national league that year. He restarted his county career in 2010, and started every game in the 2010 league season. In the 2010 championship, the team progressed to the All-Ireland Final against Cork. He was appointed Down's vice-captain in 2012, and was captain for various games. He reportedly left the Down squad ahead of the 2014 Ulster Championship. At club level, King was part of the Bryansford championship-winning side in 2003, and also part of the side that won the league title in 2014 after a match against Mayobridge in Kilcoo. Outside of Gaelic games, King was also involved in boxing. Bryansford
Bryansford is a small village in County Down, Northern Ireland. It sits at the northern side of Tollymore Forest Park, roughly halfway between the towns of Newcastle and Castlewellan. The village is within the townlands of Ballyhafry and Aghacullion. It had a population of 392 people in the 2001 Census. Places of interest Kilcoo Parish Church was built in 1712 by the Annesley family, whose family seat is in nearby Castlewellan. Percy Jocelyn, the Bishop of Clogher from 1820 to 1822, is thought to have been buried in the Roden family vault in the church. Tollymore Forest Park, at the edge of the village, covers 630 hectares and was formerly owned by the Earl of Roden. Tollymore appears in Season 1 of Game of Thrones as part of "The North". Down GAA
The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. County Down
County Down () is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland, one of the nine counties of Ulster and one of the traditional thirty-two counties of Ireland. It covers an area of and has a population of 531,665. It borders County Antrim to the north, the Irish Sea to the east, County Armagh to the west, and County Louth across Carlingford Lough to the southwest. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. 2014 Ulster Senior Football Championship
The 2014 Ulster Senior Football Championship was the 126th installment of the annual Ulster Senior Football Championship held under the auspices of Ulster GAA. It was one of the four provincial competitions of the 2014 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Monaghan entered the competition as defending Ulster champions. They were dethroned by Donegal in the final. The draw was made on 3 October 2013. Under new GAA rules, to allow counties to more easily predict the dates of their qualifier matches, the two sides of the draw were named as either A or B. Antrim, Derry, Donegal and Fermanagh were named on the A side of the draw, while Armagh, Cavan, Down, Monaghan and Tyrone's draw was named as the B side. Mayobridge GAA
Mayobridge Gaelic Athletic Association, also called Mayobridge Gaelic Athletic Club or Saint Patrick's Gaelic Athletic Social Club, is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Mayobridge, County Down, Northern Ireland. History The club was founded in 1888 as ''Saint Patrick's Mayobridge'' and is the oldest in County Down. The minutes of the Central Council of the GAA record that on 30 April 1888, an application for affiliation was received from St Patrick's Mayobridge County Down. The acceptance of that application makes the club the oldest registered GAA club in the county. Mayobridge won the county title in 1918 and 1919. The youth club and later club grounds were opened in 1978. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. The Down Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Down GAA clubs. The Down County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. Kilcoo are the title holders (2022) defeating Warrenpoint in the Final.
