Kalfas
Kalfas ( el, Κάλφας) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Tritaia, southern Achaea, Greece. It is located in a mountainous area, 5 km southeast of Portes and 7 km southwest of Stavrodromi. The community consists of the villages Kalfas and Masouraiika. It suffered damage from the 2007 Greek forest fires. General information It is surrounded by mountains and hills full of pine trees and is located on the border between Achaea and Elis, about 45 km southwest of Patras. The inhabitants are mostly engaged in livestock husbandry and to a lesser extent in agriculture. In the village there are 2 to 3 cafes. A particular sight is the Chapel of the Prophet Elijah especially, especially during the feast of the Holy Spirit. Tritaia
Tritaia ( el, Τριταία) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Erymanthos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 244.798 km2. Population 3,086 (2011). The seat of the municipality was in Stavrodromi. Tritaia was named after the ancient Achaean city Tritaea, which was located near the present village Agia Marina. Tritaia is situated in mountainous southern Achaea, on the border with Elis. It nearly surrounds the municipal unit Kalentzi. Mount Erymanthos is located in the eastern part of Tritaia. The Greek National Road 33 ( Patras - Tripoli) runs through Tritaia. Western Greece Region ( el, Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Ελλάδας, translit=Periféria Dhitikís Elládhas, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Stavrodromi ( el, Σταυροδρόμι meaning crossroads) is a village and a community in Achaea, Greece. The community consists of the villages Stavrodromi, Panousaiika, Rachi and Xirochori. It is located in a hilly area northwest of Mount Erymanthos, south of Patras. The Greek National Road 33 (Patras - Tripoli) runs through the village. 2007 Greek Forest Fires
The 2007 Greek forest fires were a series of massive forest fires that broke out in several areas across Greece throughout the summer of 2007. The most destructive and lethal infernos broke out on 23 August, expanded rapidly and raged out of control until 27 August, until they were finally put out in early September. The fires mainly affected western and southern Peloponnese as well as southern Euboea. The death toll in August alone stood at 67 people. In total 84 people lost their lives because of the fires, including several fire fighters. Some of these firestorms are believed to be the result of arson while others were merely the result of negligence. Hot temperatures, including three consecutive heat waves of over 40 °C (105 °F), and severe drought rendered the 2007 summer unprecedented in modern Greek history. Elis or Ilia ( el, Ηλεία, ''Ileia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece.
