Kaldor Public Art Projects
Kaldor Public Art Projects is an Australian non-profit arts organisation established in 1969 by John Kaldor . The organisation collaborates with international artists to create site-specific art projects in public spaces in Australia. Kaldor's first project, in 1969, was Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s ''Wrapped Coast'', which at the time was the largest single artwork ever made. By 2021 the organisation had brought 36 art projects to Australia, utilising a variety of public spaces including Cockatoo Island, Old Melbourne Gaol, and Sydney Park Brickworks. Kaldor Public Art Projects has worked with artists including Gilbert & George, Michael Landy, Jeff Koons, Bill Viola, Thomas Demand, John Baldessari, and Tino Sehgal, among others. John Kaldor
John William Kaldor (b. 1936 in Budapest) is an Australian art collector, philanthropist, and the founder of Kaldor Public Art Projects. Biography Kaldor was born in Budapest to textile manufacturers Andrew and Vera Kaldor. After a short time in Paris as a refugee, Kaldor moved to Australia in 1949 with his parents and younger brother Andrew. Kaldor was educated at Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview, studied in the United Kingdom, and attended the Textile College of Zurich under the direction of Johannes Itten. After working for Universal Textiles, in 1970 he founded his own textile manufacturing company, John Kaldor Fabricmaker, in Australia, which expanded to the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2002, the company ceased operation in Australia and the US, but continued in the UK. National Gallery Of Victoria
The National Gallery of Victoria, popularly known as the NGV, is an art museum in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1861, it is Australia's oldest and most visited art museum. The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA), established as the National Gallery of South Australia in 1881, is located in Adelaide. Adelaide Festival
The Adelaide Festival of Arts, also known as the Adelaide Festival, an arts festival, takes place in the South Australian capital of Adelaide in March each year. Started in 1960, it is a major celebration of the arts and a significant cultural event in Australia. The festival is based chiefly in the city centre and its parklands, with some venues in the inner suburbs (such as the Odeon Theatre, Norwood) or occasionally further afield. Nam June Paik
Nam June Paik (; July 20, 1932 – January 29, 2006) was a Korean American artist. He worked with a variety of media and is considered to be the founder of video art. He is credited with the first use (1974) of the term "electronic super highway" to describe the future of telecommunications. Biography Born in Seoul in 1932 in what was then Japanese Korea, the youngest of five children, Paik had two older brothers and two older sisters. His :ko:백낙승 (1886년), father (who in 2002 was revealed to be a Chinilpa, or a Korean who collaborated with the Japanese during the latter's occupation of Korea) owned a major textile manufacturing firm. Gilbert Prousch, sometimes referred to as Gilbert Proesch (born 17 September 1943 in San Martin de Tor, Italy), and George Passmore (born 8 January 1942 in Plymouth, United Kingdom), are two artists who work together as the collaborative art duo Gilbert & George. They are known for their distinctive and highly formal appearance and manner in performance art, and also for their brightly coloured graphic-style photo-based artworks. Brett Whiteley
Brett Whiteley AO (7 April 1939 – 15 June 1992) was an Australian artist. He is represented in the collections of all the large Australian galleries, and was twice winner of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes. He held many exhibitions, and lived and painted in Australia as well as Italy, England, Fiji and the United States. William Pidgeon
William Edwin Pidgeon, aka Bill Pidgeon and Wep, (1909–1981) was an Australian painter who won the Archibald Prize three times. After his death, cartoonist and journalist Les Tanner described him: "He was everything from serious draftsman, brilliant cartoonist, social observer, splittingly funny illustrator to multiple Archibald prizewinner. Pidgeon was born on 7 January 1909 in Paddington, an inner suburb of Sydney. He was the son of Frederick Castledine Pidgeon and Thirza Jessie Pidgeon, née White. Mike Parr
Mike Parr is an Australian performance artist and printmaker. Parr's works have been exhibited in Australia and internationally, including in Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States. In the 1970s, he co-founded the artist cooperative Inhibodress with Peter Kennedy and Tim Johnson. Early life and education Parr spent his childhood in rural Queensland.
