Kai ǃGarib Municipality ( af, Kai !Garib Munisipaliteit; tn, Mmasepala wa Kai !Garib) is a local municipality within the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The name ''Kai ǃGarib'' originates from the Khoekhoe language and means "big great river", referring to the Orange River that flows through the area. South African Standard Time
South African Standard Time (SAST) is the time zone used by all of South Africa as well as Eswatini and Lesotho. The zone is two hours ahead of UTC ( UTC+02:00) and is the same as Central Africa Time. Daylight saving time is not observed in either time zone. Solar noon in this time zone occurs at 30° E in SAST, effectively making Pietermaritzburg at the correct solar noon point, with Johannesburg and Pretoria slightly west at 28° E and Durban slightly east at 31° E. Thus, most of South Africa's population experience true solar noon at approximately 12:00 daily. The western Northern Cape and Western Cape differ, however. Everywhere on land west of 22°30′ E effectively experiences year-round daylight saving time because of its location in true UTC+01:00 but still being in South African Standard Time. Kenhardt
Kenhardt (founded 1868) is a small town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. This little town is about 120 km from Upington, the largest town in the area. History On 27 December 1868, special magistrate Maximillian Jackson with a police contingent, was sent to act against the Griquas in the area. The Griqua's anti-colonial resistance had erupted into an open conflict. Jackson arrived in Kenhardt and set up camp under a giant camelthorn tree. This has been for a long time the most remote settlement in the North-Western Cape. With time the town developed from under this tree, becoming a municipality in 1909. The Hartbees River, with its many sweet thorn trees, provides a green belt irrigated by the Rooiberg Dam. Kenhardt is famous for being at the heart of the Dorper sheep-farming area. Keimoes
Keimoes is a town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It lies on the Orange River and is about halfway between Upington and Kakamas. History It attained municipal status in 1949. The name of the town translates in both the Khoekhoe and Khoemana languages. The first translation from Khoekhoe means "large eye". At the Roman Catholic Mission Station in the town there is a natural water fountain called Big Eye or Keimoes. The "big eye" may also come from the vast views that can be seen from the Tierberg, a small mountain outside the town. The second translation is taken from the Khoemana language. The town is said to have gotten the name in the 1860s from Klaas Lukas, a Khoemana leader Klaas Lukas called it Keimoes (‘mouse nest’) after the colonies of mice living there. The discovery of Middle Stone Age stone tools such as, blades, points, scrapers and one adze found in Keimoes confirms the prehistoric activity in the town.
