Kaena Point Satellite Tracking Station
Kaena Point Space Force Station is a United States Space Force installation in Kaena Point on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It is a remote tracking station of the Satellite Control Network responsible for tracking satellites in orbit, many of which support the United States Department of Defense, receiving and processing data and in turn, enabling control of satellites by relaying commands from control centers. The station originally opened in 1959 to support the Corona reconnaissance program. Detachment 3, 21st Space Operations Squadron, part of Space Delta 6, operates Hawaii Tracking Station on the site. It was constructed in 1959, one of three built that year. The facility is placed near the westernmost point of the island of Oahu, atop a high ridge. Kaena or Kaena Point is the westernmost tip of land on the island of Oahu. In Hawaiian, ''kaena'' means 'the heat'. The area was named after a brother or cousin of Pele. Peacock Flats
Peacock Flats is a pair of camp sites located in the Waianae Range on the west side of Oahu, Hawaii. It is part of the Kuaokala Forest Reserve and is accessible via the Kuaokala trail. Geography Peacock Flats is accessible only to four-wheel drive vehicles. It is popular with many of the off-roading clubs on the island and offers both easy and challenging trails over rocks and steep, deeply rutted trails. The condition of the trails vary greatly with the weather. When wet, the trails are slippery, very treacherous, and almost impassable, however, when dry they can be almost tame. At the top of the main trail is a camping area (visitors intending to camp must notate that on their permit) with picnic tables and an outhouse.
