''Kadınca'' (Turkish language, Turkish: ''Womanly'') was a monthly women's magazine published in Istanbul, Turkey, between 1978 and 1998. It played an important role for Turkish feminist movement. It was the first popular feminist women's magazine published in Turkey. History and profile ''Kadınca'' was established in 1978. The first issue was published in December 1978. The founder and launch editor-in-chief was Turkish people, Turkish journalist Duygu Asena. Her tenure ended on 1 March 1992. ''Kadınca'' which was published on a monthly basis was modeled on British Second-wave feminism, second-wave feminist magazine ''Spare Rib'' and American second-wave feminist magazine ''Ms (magazine), Ms''. The target audience of ''Kadınca'' was Turkish women aged between 20–30 from Middle class, middle and lower middle classes. Duygu Asena
Duygu Asena (19 April 1946 – 30 July 2006) was a Turkish journalist, best-selling author and activist for women's rights. Biography She was born in Istanbul as the daughter of Nihal and Muhtar Asena. His father was in the sesame business. His grandfather is CHP Gümüşhane deputy Ali Şevket Öndersev. The poet İnci Asena is also her sister. After completing her secondary education at Kadıköy Private Girls' College, she studied at Istanbul University Pedagogy Department. Starting her career as a pedagogue, Asena worked at Haseki Hospital Children's Clinic and Istanbul University Children's House. Her first article in the newspaper was published in the Butterfly supplement of the '' Hurriyet'' newspaper in 1972. Since then, she has been a journalist and manager in various magazines and newspapers. Feminism In Turkey
Women in Turkey are women who live in or are from Turkey. Turkey gave full political rights to women, including the right to elect and be elected locally in 1930 (nationwide in 1934). Article 10 of the Turkish Constitution bans any discrimination, state or private, on the grounds of sex. It is the first country to have a woman as the President of its Constitutional Court. Article 41 of the Turkish Constitution reads that the family is "based on equality between spouses". The Turkish feminist movement began in the 19th century during the decline of the Ottoman Empire when the Ottoman Welfare Organisation of Women was founded in 1908.
