Kaavan
Kaavan ( ur, ; born 1985) is a male Asian elephant known as the "world's loneliest elephant" since his partner, 22-year-old Saheli, died in 2012. Kaavan was gifted by the government of Sri Lanka to Pakistan in 1985. He remained at the Islamabad Zoo until November 2020, when he was moved to a sanctuary in Cambodia, in response to a campaign launched by local and international animal rights activists, led by American singer Cher. In May 2020, the Islamabad High Court ordered Kaavan to be released. Biography Kaavan was born in Sri Lanka in 1985 and was kept at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. The Sri Lankan government gifted him to then-President of Pakistan, Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, when Kaavan was one year old. Islamabad Zoo
Islamabad Zoo ( ur, ), previously Marghazar Zoo, was an zoo in Islamabad Capital Territory. It was opened in 1978, and was under the administration of Capital Development Authority of Pakistan before its closure in December 2020 due to its mistreatment of animals. In May 2020, the Islamabad High Court ruled to transfer management of the park and its non-human species to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board and transfer all animals to shelters, and the board took administrative control in June 2021. A renovation of the zoo as a conservation centre is being planned. History The zoo started in 1978 as a refuge for leopards, spotted deer, and Indian gazelle found in the region, and was administered by Capital Development Authority. Four Paws (stylized FOUR PAWS) is a global animal welfare organisation based in Vienna, Austria. The organisation is focusing on gradually improving the living conditions of animals under direct human influence, by revealing suffering, rescuing animals in need and protecting them. Amir Khalil (born 21 November 1964 in El Fayoum) is an Egyptian veterinarian and Director of Project Development at the animal welfare organisation Four Paws International. He is most known as ''the war vet'', saving animals from disaster areas and war zones. Life Khalil was born on 21 November 1964 in El Fayoum, Egypt, where his father worked for the Ministry of Interior as a pharmacist and his mother was a housewife.
