KVAT-LD, virtual channel 17 ( UHF digital channel 35), is a low-powered television station serving Austin, Texas, United States that is licensed to Garfield. The station is owned by HC2 Holdings. History The license was initially established in 1978 as translator K63AY by Pompey Mountain Broadcasting in Mullin. It was displaced to channel 17 as K17GH. The station was originally an affiliate of LAT TV, a Houston-based Spanish-language television network that launched in May 2006; however, the network folded 2 years later in 2008. In December 2010, the station's call letters changed from KVAT-LP to KVAT-LD. In June 2013, KVAT-LD was slated to be sold to Landover 5 LLC as part of a larger deal involving 51 other low-power television stations; the sale fell through in June 2016. Mako Communications sold its stations, including KVAT-LD, to HC2 Holdings in 2017. KGBS-CD, virtual channel and UHF digital channel 19, is a low-powered, Class A Stadium- affiliated television station licensed to Austin, Texas, United States. The station is owned by HC2 Holdings. History The station was built and signed on by local Austin businessman Juan Wheeler Jr., and was at first an independent station, affiliated with the Telemundo network. K65GB was financed by funds from KVAW, the Wheeler-owned Telemundo station in Eagle Pass. In 2001, Caballero Television, a television broadcasting company run by Eduardo Caballero, acquired KGBS-LP; the station became affiliated with Más Música, a network that Caballero also owned, which broadcast Spanish music videos 24 hours a day. Soul of the South Television (sometimes referred to as SSN TV) is an African-American-focused regional broadcast network owned by SSN Media Group, LP. It primarily broadcasts in the Southern United States and secondarily in other high African-American populated cities in the north. SSN TV uses the C.A.S.H. (Central Automated Satellite Hub) system, and a computer server “cloud-based system” originally constructed by the defunct Equity Broadcasting to send its feed to its affiliated stations. LAT TV was a Spanish-language television network emphasizing family-oriented and educational programming. It was owned by Latin America Broadcasting of Houston, Texas and launched in May 2006, initially on five low-power television stations in Texas and Arizona, four of which were in top-ten Hispanic markets. The network folded in May 2008. History LAT TV launched on May 19, 2006 with television stations in Houston, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas, and in Phoenix, Arizona. On April 10, 2007, LAT TV announced a partnership with Equity Media Holdings that would affiliate 26 stations owned or controlled by Equity with LAT TV, effective May 30, 2007.
