KS Mewa Gniew
KS Mewa Gniew is a football club based in Gniew, Kociewie, Poland. As of the 2022–23 season, the club finished 10th in Klasa A, the seventh level in the Polish league pyramid. History Mewa Gniew was formed in 1958. The club was formerly sponsored by the local Rolls Royce factory and during this time were renamed KS Mewa RR-WIP Gniew for branding purposes. In 2001 Mewa Gniew beat rivals KS Majewo 5–3 in a Tczew County derby. During the winter break of the 2010–11 season the club were forced to withdraw from the Klasa A and dissolve the senior team, with the majority of their players transferring to local rivals. In 2013 the club entered the Puchar Sołtysa sports tournament which took place in Kursztyn finishing in third place. The following year Mewa Gniew received 5 445,76 PLN in funding from the local government. Klasa A represents the seventh level of the Polish football league system, Polish football hierarchy. Teams promoted from Klasa A move up to the liga okręgowa, whilst relegated teams descend to the Klasa B leagues. Polish Cup
The Polish Cup in football ( pl, Puchar Polski w piłce nożnej ) is an elimination tournament for Polish football clubs, held continuously from 1950, and is the second most important national title in Polish football after the Ekstraklasa title. Due to mass participation of teams, the tournament is often called ''The Cup of the Thousand Teams'' ( pl, Puchar Tysiąca Drużyn ). Participation is open to any club registered with the Polish FA, regardless of whether it competes in any league in the national pyramid. Reserve and veteran teams are also eligible, with reserve teams reaching the final on two occasions (and winning it once). Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish football club based in Gdańsk. The club was founded in 1945 by people expelled from Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. Tricity Derby
The "Tricity Derby" ( pl, Derby Trójmiasta) is the name given to describe football matches between Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdańsk, the two biggest teams in the Tricity area. The derby splits the Tricity area, with Arka representing Gdynia, the northern part of the Tricity, while Lechia represent Gdańsk which covers the southern part of the Tricity. The first meeting between the two clubs was in 1964, and has been contested a total of 41 times since then. Despite both teams having featured in the Ekstraklasa throughout their history, the first meeting between the two teams in the top flight happened in 2008.
