Lechia Gdańsk
Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish football club based in Gdańsk. The club was founded in 1945 by people expelled from Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. The club's name comes from Lechia, a poetic name for Poland, and is a continuation of the name used by the club based in Lwów. In their early years, Lechia enjoyed some success, most notably finishing third in the Polish top division, before spending decades in the second and third tiers. In the early 1980s, Lechia won the Polish Cup, the Polish SuperCup, and played in a European competition for the first time. After having two mergers with other teams in the 1990s the club had to restart from the sixth tier in 2001. In May 2008 the club was promoted again to the Ekstraklasa, with the club's most recent success coming in 2019, finishing third in the league and again winning both the Polish Cup and SuperCup. Stadion Gdańsk
Stadion Gdańsk ( en, Gdańsk Stadium), known for sponsorship reasons as the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk since May 2021, is a football stadium in Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. It is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Lechia Gdańsk, which competes in the Ekstraklasa. The stadium is located at the Pokoleń Lechii Gdańsk 1 Street ( en, Generations of Lechia Gdańsk) in the northern part of the city ( Letnica district). The total capacity is 41,620 spectators, all seated and roofed. The stadium is the second largest arena in Ekstraklasa and the third largest in the country (after the Stadion Narodowy and the Stadion Śląski). Roman Korynt
Roman Korynt (12 October 1929 – 15 July 2018) was a Polish international footballer who played as a defender. Most of his career was spent with Lechia Gdańsk, spending over 15 years at the club. He also had short spells with Gedania Gdańsk, OWKS Lublin, and CWKS Warszawa. He received 32 caps for Poland between 1952 and 1959. Biography Early years Korynt was born in Tczew in 1929. Both of his parents came from Kociewie, with his father's parents both being Greek emigrants with the family's name originally being ''Korinth''. Originally his sporting passion started with boxing training with MKS Wybrzeże while also developing a passion for football at this time joining Grom Gdynia. Robert Gronowski
Robert Gronowski (13 May 1926 – 24 February 1994) was a Polish professional association football player and manager. He spent the majority of his career with Lechia Gdańsk, with whom he also managed for a brief spell after retiring from playing professional football. His brother, Henryk Gronowski was also a former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Early years Having been born in Gliwice in 1926, which was then in Germany, Robert was born as Robert Gruner. Unlike his brother Henryk who changed his name to the Polish version of their last name, Gronowski, Robert never officially changed his name and was always known as Robert Gruner throughout his lifetime. He spent the majority of his career with Lechia Gdańsk, before going on to have brief spells in management. His brother, Robert Gronowski was also a former professional footballer who played as a forward. Early years Having been born in Gliwice in 1928, which was then in Germany, Henryk was born as Henryk Gruner. He later changed his last name in 1949 to the more Polish sounding Gronowski. Bogdan Adamczyk
Bogdan Adamczyk (born 27 November 1935) is a former Polish footballer. Adamczyk spent the majority of his career playing for Lechia Gdańsk, with the exceptions of playing two seasons with Zawisza Bydgoszcz, and two years in Australia playing for Polonia Sydney. Senior career In 1954 Adamczyk made his Lechia debut against Górnik Zabrze, in the first game of the season. In his second professional season Adamczyk was playing in the top flight with Lechia, and was playing regularly for the team. He scored his first Ekstraklasa goal against Wisła Kraków, his third game of playing in the highest division. From 1956-57 Adamczyk was called up for his military service, and as a result spent those two years playing for Zawisza Bydgoszcz, a team which started as a military sponsored sports club. Zagłębie Sosnowiec () is a football club based in Sosnowiec, Poland. The club was established in 1906. In Polish football there have been four different League Cups with varying levels of success, but all were short-lived competitions, held irregularly over the years. The league cup competitions focused mainly on top division teams, in contrast to that of the Polish Cup which allows teams much lower down in the footballing pyramid to compete. Young Leaders Rally Cup
The Cup of the Rally of Young Leaders (also called the Young Leaders Rally Cup and the Cup of the Polish Youth Union) ( pl, Puchar Zlotu Młodych Przodowników) was the first League Cup in Polish football. The tournament was created by the then president of the Polish Football Association with all 12 teams of the I liga being involved. Due to the league being delayed until after the 1952 Summer Olympics the tournament provided the players a chance to show off their skills with a chance of being called up into the Olympic squad. The tournament took place in Warsaw with the 12 teams being split into 2 groups of 6, with teams in each group playing each other twice. The tournament took its name from the youth rally that was taking place in the city from 20 to 22 July 1952. The final took place on 20 July 1952 in the Polish Army Stadium.
