KRI Nanggala (402)
KRI ''Nanggala'' (402), also known as ''Nanggala II'', was one of two Type 209/1300 diesel-electric attack submarines of the Indonesian Navy. Ordered in 1977, ''Nanggala'' was launched in 1980 and commissioned in 1981. It conducted intelligence gathering operations in the Indian Ocean and around East Timor and North Kalimantan. It was a participant of the international Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training naval exercise and conducted a passing exercise with . The vessel underwent major refits by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in 2012 and Indonesian state-owned shipyard PT PAL in 2020. On 21 April 2021, the ship went missing during a routine exercise in the Bali Sea. Ulrich Gabler (1 October 1913 – 24 February 1994) was a German shipbuilding engineer, who specialized in the design and development of diesel-powered submarines. During World War II he served as chief engineer in the U-boat force on and , then under the command of Reinhard Suhren. Suhren had recommended Gabler for the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, a request that was turned down and Gabler received the German Cross in Gold on 15 October 1942. Following his war patrols on ''U-564'' he worked on the design and development of the U-boat classes Uncompleted U-boat projects, XXII, XVII A and XXVI. Hinduism in Indonesia, as of the 2018 census, is practised by about 1.74% of the total population, and almost 87% of the population in Bali. Commodore Harry Setyawan (18 October 197521 April 2021) was a naval officer who held several different commands in the Indonesian Navy, culminating in being Commander of the 2nd Fleet Submarine Unit.
