KPXG-TV
KPXG-TV (channel 22) is a television station licensed to Salem, Oregon, United States, broadcasting the Ion Television network to the Portland area. Owned and operated by the Ion Media subsidiary of the E.W. Scripps Company, the station has offices on Southwest Naito Parkway in downtown Portland, and its transmitter is located in the Sylvan-Highlands section of the city. KPXG-TV was started as independent station KECH in 1981. Never truly successful, it filed for bankruptcy within two years. From 1987 to 1998, it primarily broadcast Home Shopping Network (HSN) programming before being purchased for the launch of Pax, predecessor to Ion. ON TV (TV Network)
ON TV was an American subscription television (STV) service that operated in eight markets between 1977 and 1985. Originally established by National Subscription Television, a joint venture of Oak Industries and Chartwell Communications, ON TV was part of a new breed of STV operations that broadcast premium programming—including movies, sporting events, and concerts—over an encrypted signal on a UHF television broadcasting, UHF television station and leased Cable converter box, decoders to subscribing customers. At its peak in 1982, ON TV boasted more than 700,000 customers—more than half of them in Los Angeles, its most successful market. KVDO-TV
KVDO-TV was a television station broadcasting on channel 3 in Salem, Oregon, United States, that operated between 1970 and 1983. Originally intended as a local independent station serving the Willamette Valley, financial considerations resulted in a contested sale to Liberty Television, owner of KEZI in Eugene, Oregon, in 1972. However, for media concentration reasons, the Federal Communications Commission ordered KVDO-TV sold within three years. As a result, the Oregon Educational and Public Broadcasting Service (OEPBS) acquired KVDO-TV in 1976, resulting in a station that often—and controversially—duplicated OEPBS's transmitters at Portland and Corvallis. KPDX (channel 49) is a television station licensed to Vancouver, Washington, United States, serving the Portland, Oregon area as an affiliate of MyNetworkTV. It is the only major commercial station in Portland that is licensed to the Washington side of the market. KPDX is owned by Gray Television alongside Fox affiliate KPTV (channel 12). Both stations share studios on NW Greenbrier Parkway in Beaverton, while KPDX's transmitter is located in the Sylvan-Highlands section of Portland. However, master control and some internal operations are based at hub facilities at the shared studios of CBS affiliate KPHO-TV and independent station KTVK in Phoenix, Arizona. KTSF (channel 26) is a multicultural independent television station licensed to San Francisco, California, United States, serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The station is owned by the Lincoln Broadcasting Company, and maintains studios on Valley Drive in south suburban Brisbane. Through a channel sharing agreement with Univision owned-and-operated station KDTV-DT (channel 14), the two stations transmit using KDTV-DT's spectrum from an antenna atop Mount Allison. SelecTV was an American subscription television service that was formed in 1976 and first began broadcasting in 1978; the service focused entirely on televising movies, and was shut down in 1989. As with other subscription television systems, SelecTV was transmitted via scrambled signal from a local UHF television station (it later became a satellite service as well).
