KPRP (AM)
KPRP (650 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, which serves the Honolulu metropolitan area. It broadcast since 1946 and is owned by SummitMedia, LLC, which last leased it to Pinoy Power Media, programming primarily in the Filipino language. The license was surrendered on December 5, 2022, and the station stopped broadcasting, although the license was later reinstated. What was KPRP started as KPOA on 630 kHz in 1946 as the fourth radio station in Honolulu, with programming including popular disc jockeys. The station was known as KORL from 1960 to 1988, airing various music and talk formats; this run ended with the station filing for bankruptcy and going off the air for several years. It returned to broadcasting in 1992 as KHNR, an all-news and later news/talk radio station. WSNL
WSNL (600 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a religious format. Licensed to Flint, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1946. The original call letters were WFLM, but the station was purchased in December 1946 by George W. Trendle and H. Allen Campbell, who changed the call letters to WTCB and made the station into Flint's NBC Radio Network affiliate. The calls changed to WTAC October 13, 1948, still under Trendle and Campbell's ownership. WTAC popularly stood for "WE THE AUTO CITY", referring to Chevrolet and Buick plants formerly located in Flint, but it actually stood for Trendle and Campbell. Trendle and Campbell sold WTAC to a Hawaii-based group in 1954. KHLO
KHLO (850 AM) is a radio station licensed to Hilo, Hawaii, United States. The station serves the Hilo area. The station is currently owned by First Assembly King's Cathedral and Chapels. History KILA and KIMO On March 6, 1950, the Island Broadcasting Company—formed by John D. Keating and J. Elroy McCaw—received the construction permit to start a new radio station on 850 kHz in Hilo, to broadcast with 1,000 watts. Initially designated KOLU, the call letters changed to KILA before launch. Studios were built in Hilo's Grand Naniloa Hotel where a sun deck formerly had been located.
