KNSB Dutch Marathon Championships
The Dutch Marathon Championships is a speed skating event composed of two championships. One on natural ice and one on artificial ice. Natural ice The championship was skated for the first time in 1979. In the next 33 years the championship could be organized only 13 times. The last edition was skated in 2012 at the Grote Rietplas in Emmen. The skating event is held each winter season (if possible) and it is possible for the event to take place twice in the same year. Dries van Wijhe and Jorrit Bergsma are the only male skaters who have won the championships twice. Alida Pasveer is the only female skater to win twice. Sjoerd Huisman
Sjoerd Huisman (19 June 1986 – 30 December 2013) was a Dutch speed skater who specialised in marathon speed skating. Career Huisman made his debut in marathon speed skating in 2005 to become one of the best sprinters in the peloton. His biggest success was winning the Dutch championship on natural ice in 2009 at the Oostvaardersplassen. A year later Huisman won the Essent Cup and the Dutch Open at the Austrian Weissensee. Huisman was also successful in inline skating. In 2010 he won the Dutch marathon championship. In May 2011, Huisman was involved in a car accident after he blacked-out behind the wheel. Earnewâld
Earnewâld ( nl, Eernewoude) is a village in Tytsjerksteradiel in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 409 in January 2017. A windmill, '' De Princehofmolen'', is maintained as a landscape feature. History The village was first mentioned in 1471 as Eerndwaud. The etymology is unclear. It was sometimes called "Arendswoude" (forest of the eagle), however that is merely a corruption of the Frisian name. Earnewâld developed in the 18th century as a peat excavation village. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1794. Earnewâld was home to 310 people in 1840. The village was isolated until 1860 when a road to Garyp was constructed. It is home to a shipping wharf for historic ships. After World War II, it started to become a tourist water sports centre. Gretha Smit
Grietje "Greta" Smit (born 20 January 1976) is a Dutch former speed skater. Smit won a surprising silver medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics in the 5000 meter event. She skated a world record broken in a later pair by Claudia Pechstein. Prior to that season, she had not competed in long track speed skating competitions for several years, and had only taken up practice again shortly before the Dutch trials in late 2001. However, she had been a very successful marathon skater in the years before 2002. She had become Dutch marathon skating champion on natural ice in 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2001, and on artificial ice in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Yep Kramer (born 15 November 1957) is a Dutch-Frisians, Frisian speed skating, long track and speed skating, marathon speed skater. He is the father of speed skaters Sven Kramer and :nl:Brecht Kramer, Brecht Kramer. In 1985, 1986 and 1997 he participated in the Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour), the world's largest speed skating competition. In 1997 he finished the almost 200 km long race in 8th position. Erik Hulzebosch
Erik Hulzebosch (born 17 June 1970) is a Dutch marathon speed skater, inline speed skater and part-time singer and blogger at his own website. Born in Ane, Gramsbergen Hulzebosch started as a cyclo-cross cyclist. In marathon speed skating he won several races on both artificial and nature track races, making his debut in 1987. He was the 1992 World Champion in inline skating. During the 1997 Elfstedentocht Hulzebosch was favourite to win the title, but was outsprinted in the final metres by Henk Angenent. Hulzebosch is known for his Eastern Dutch accent and his popularity in these days resulted in a top-15 hit called "Hulzebosch Hulzebosch" in 1997 as well. Maasland
Maasland (population: 6,844) is a town in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It lies in the municipality (''gemeente'') of Midden-Delfland and covers an area of 24.42 km2 (of which 0.64 km2 water). Ankeveen
Ankeveen is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Wijdemeren, and lies about 5 km west of Bussum. The village was first mentioned in 1344 as Tankenveen, and means "peat excavation of Tanke (person)". Ankeveen is a stretched out peat concession village.
