Erik Hulzebosch
Erik Hulzebosch (born 17 June 1970) is a Dutch marathon speed skater, inline speed skater and part-time singer and blogger at his own website. Born in Ane, Gramsbergen Hulzebosch started as a cyclo-cross cyclist. In marathon speed skating he won several races on both artificial and nature track races, making his debut in 1987. He was the 1992 World Champion in inline skating. During the 1997 Elfstedentocht Hulzebosch was favourite to win the title, but was outsprinted in the final metres by Henk Angenent. Hulzebosch is known for his Eastern Dutch accent and his popularity in these days resulted in a top-15 hit called "Hulzebosch Hulzebosch" in 1997 as well. He is married to long track speed skater Jenita Hulzebosch-Smit, sister of Olympic silver medalist Gretha Smit. Giethoorn
Giethoorn () is a village in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands with a population of 2,795 in 2020. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km southwest of Steenwijk. As a popular Dutch tourist destination both within Netherlands and abroad, Giethoorn is often referred to as "Dutch Venice" ( nl, Hollands Venetië) or the "Venice of the Netherlands". History Giethoorn used to be a pedestrian precinct, but nowadays exceptions are made. It became locally famous, especially after 1958, when the Dutch film maker Bert Haanstra made his famous comedy ''Fanfare'' there. In the old part of the village, there were no roads (though a cycling path was eventually added), and all transport was done by water over one of the many canals. The lakes in Giethoorn were formed by peat digging. The Inline Speed Skating World Championships (World Roller Speed Skating Championships) are inline speed skating competitions sanctioned by World Skate. The World Championships have been held unofficially since 1937 and officially since 1966. their format has changed over the years. European nations, in particular Italy, have dominated the competition in its first 40 years. The United States have had a stint of dominance during the 1980s, 90s and 2000s.
