KMIC
KMIC (1590 AM) is an English language South Asian music and spoken word formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Houston, Texas, serving the Greater Houston area. The station, which began broadcasting in 1947, is owned and operated by DAIJ Media. KMIC is also licensed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast in the HD (hybrid) format; however, was turned off in 2012. Translators History Beginnings as KATL This station began as KATL on 1590 kHz in 1947 and is the sixth-oldest surviving station licensed in the Houston area. The station launch was postponed by engineering problems. KATL went on the air at 6 p.m. on May 12, under special authority since it hadn't received its official license. KATL became an affiliate of Gordon McLendon's Liberty Broadcasting System. KCOH
KCOH (1230 AM) is a commercial radio station in Houston, Texas that airs an urban talk/urban contemporary format. It is a return to the heritage format that aired in Houston from 1953 to 2013 on 1430 KCOH, moving to this facility after 1430 was sold. KCOH returned to the legendary music format on March 14, 2019, while KCOH officially relaunched on Monday April 15, 2019 as "1230 KCOH, The Source", featuring many of the long-time KCOH shows from the original station, and the return of such legendary KCOH personalities as Don Sam and Ralph Cooper. History K-NUZ "Dial It Up" 1-2-3 The radio station began in 1948 when KTHT (now KBME) vacated this frequency for a stronger signal at 790 kHz. KYOK (1140 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Conroe, Texas, and serving Greater Houston. It is currently owned by Salt of the Earth Broadcasting and airs an urban contemporary gospel radio format. KYOK broadcasts at 5,000 watts by day, using a directional antenna with its transmitter off Bryant Road in Conroe. But because AM 1140 is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A XEMR Monterrey, Mexico, and WRVA Richmond, Virginia, KYOK is a daytimer, required to go off the air at sunset to avoid interference. KRCM (1380 AM) is a terrestrial AM radio station, licensed to Shenandoah, Texas. The station broadcasts a Spanish Religious format as "Radio Vida 1380" and is owned by Daij Media, LLC. History KRCM originated in Beaumont, Texas as KPBX in 1947. During the 1950s and 1960s, KRCM was known as KJET, a blues and R&B station. It was the only black station in Beaumont. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation.
