This station began as KATL on 1590 kHz in 1947 and is the sixth-oldest surviving station licensed in the Houston area. The station launch was postponed by engineering problems. On August 13, 2014, Disney put KMIC and 22 other Radio Disney stations up for sale, in order to focus more on digital distribution of the Radio Disney network.
