KMA (960 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Shenandoah, Iowa. History The station was founded in 1925 by seed salesman Earl May. In 1925 Henry A. Field, owner of Field's Nursery in Shenandoah and a business rival of May, founded a competing radio station, KFNF. While both stations offered farm news, the two were to become most competitive by offering live productions of hillbilly music. According to KMA's website, more than a million people traveled to small-town Shenandoah to hear the music. May built the station headquarters and Mayfair Auditorium at the Mayfair Theatre (the theatre being closed in 1963, the studio demolished in 1964 due to its being declared structurally unsafe by the Iowa State Fire Marshall, and the entire building being demolished in 1966) across the street from the nursery business. Licensed to Clarinda, Iowa, United States, the station is currently owned by KMAland Broadcasting, LLC History What is today KMA-FM went on the air in 1977 on 106.3 MHz as KSWI. The first callsign reflected its initial owners, Southwest Iowa Stereo. Not long after signing on, however, Kendall Light, the station's owner, died. KMA is a collaboration between media artists Kit Monkman and Tom Wexler (UK). KMA's work is primarily focused on the use of projected light to transform spaces and the interactions of people within those spaces. The idea of people gathering after dark to enact and / or watch a drama or ritual lies deep inside us and our ancestral history. The Royal Military Academy ( nl, Koninklijke Militaire Academie or ''KMA'') is the service academy for the Dutch Army, the Dutch Air Force and the Royal Marechaussee. Located in Breda, Southern Netherlands, the KMA has trained future officers since 1828. Description The KMA offers a programme of study which lasts four or five years, depending on the academic major cadets choose. Academic programmes have changed significantly during its history. In today's programme cadets are awarded a bachelor's degree upon graduation and commissioned in the Royal Netherlands Army, the Royal Netherlands Air Force or the Royal Marechaussee.
