KKXS (96.1 FM, "XS Sports 96.1") is a commercial radio station licensed in Shingletown, California, broadcasting to the Shasta & Tehama County areas. KKXS airs a sports format and is an affiliate of CBS Sports Radio. It is now the region's flagship station for San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers and San Jose Sharks. KNCQ (97.3 FM, "Q-97") is a commercial radio station in Weaverville, California. KNCQ has aired a country music format since 1985. KNCQ broadcasts all the way from Medford, Oregon to Sacramento, California. History KNCQ (Q97FM) signed "on-the-air" on October 29, 1985. The station was built from the ground up by the late Craig McCarthy along with his brother and father as partners of McCarthy Wireless, Inc. The station's original studios and offices were located at 2551 Park Marina Drive in the old circular Daniels Furniture Building, in Redding. Craig McCarthy was the first "weather man" the station had. In an effort to add more voices to the station's airwaves, McCarthy would pre-record weather updates in the morning that would air throughout the day. Shingletown is a census-designated place (CDP) in Shasta County, California, United States. Its population is 2,442 as of the 2020 census, up from 2,283 from the 2010 census. Shingletown is a small town located along California State Route 44 in the hills just below Mount Lassen. Shingletown has a history of logging large timber, including pine, fir and cedar. It is also known as "The Gateway to Lassen". Shingletown was originally named Shingle Camp, for the workers who cut roofing slats from timber to supply miners during the Gold Rush era. Shasta College
Shasta College is a public community college in Redding, California, with branch campuses in Burney, Weaverville, and Red Bluff. It was founded in 1950 and later moved to a much larger campus while the original campus became the new location of Shasta High School. Shasta College has approximately 8,865 students of all ages, including traditional college students, concurrently-enrolled high school students, older, re-entry students, and continuing education students who are simply taking classes for fun. The college has a wide variety of transfer-level and pre-transfer-level classes and programs as well as vocational programs. Many recent high school graduates attend the college in order to transfer to universities after two years.
