History 105.5 signed on the air in 1971 broadcasting ABC Radio Network's Today's Best Hits satellite-fed Hot AC service with the name "Y105". The station was owned by Southeast Kansas Broadcasting, Inc. at the time. In 2004, the station cut the satellite feed and provided local programming and changed monikers to "Sunny 105.5". The ownership changed to MyTown Media, LLC in September 2008. Chanute () is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. Founded on January 1, 1873, it was named after railroad engineer and aviation pioneer Octave Chanute. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 8,722. Chanute is home of Neosho County Community College. History In 1870 when the Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston Rail Road (later the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, now the BNSF Railway) crossed the Missouri, Kansas and Texas line within the limits of Neosho county four rival towns sprang up, in the vicinity of the junction: New Chicago, Chicago Junction, Alliance, and Tioga. Romeo Montague () is the male protagonist of William Shakespeare's tragedy ''Romeo and Juliet''. It also featured many retro (1980s) hits, and on Saturday night, it played only requested retro songs. The network was previously known as Best Hits, Best Variety. Today's Best Hits was a property of Cumulus Media Networks (now Westwood One). "Retro Radio", the first nationwide radio broadcast devoted solely to music from the 1980s, was launched on Saturday nights in 1997.
