KKOL-FM
KKOL-FM (107.9 MHz, "Decades 107.9") is a commercial FM radio station serving the Honolulu, Hawaii media market. The Salem Media Group outlet broadcasts at 107.9 MHz with an ERP of 100 kW and is licensed to Aiea, Hawaii. Its transmitter is on Palehua Road in Kapolei and its studios and offices are in Honolulu. KKOL-FM airs the nationally syndicated "Kool Gold" classic hits format from Westwood One. History KGMZ signed on the air on August 27, 1992, as a Top 40 station, only to flip formats to smooth jazz in 1994. That would give way to its current oldies format in 1997. The station is now KKOL-FM and is now called "Kool Gold 107.9." KGU (AM)
KGU (760 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Honolulu, Hawaii, known as "Hawaii Sports Radio Network". It is owned by the Salem Media Group and broadcasts a sports radio format, carrying syndicated programming from the SportsMap Radio Network and VSiN Radio. The radio studios and offices are in Honolulu's Kalihi district, and its transmitter is in the Kakaako neighborhood. AM 760 is a United States clear-channel frequency, on which WJR in Detroit, Michigan is the dominant Class A station. There are only 18 stations on 760 AM within the United States. KGU is far enough away from Detroit that it broadcasts day and night with 10,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna. Programming is also heard on 250 watt FM translator K236CR at 95.1 MHz. KGU-FM (99.5 MHz) is a Christian Talk formatted station based in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Salem Media Group outlet broadcasts with an ERP of 100 kW. Its studios are in Honolulu's Kalihi district, and its transmitter is near Akupu, Hawaii. History The station signed on the air in 1992 as KORL, offering a Japanese tourist information format until 1999, when it made its first foray into Hawaiian AC. KHNR (690 AM) is a conservative talk radio station serving Honolulu, Hawaii. The Salem Communications outlet broadcasts with a power level of 10,000 watts. Its studios are in Honolulu's Kalihi district, and its transmitter is in the Kakaako neighborhood. History KHNR's history at 690 AM can be traced back to its early days as the original home of Top 40 KKUA during the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. KHCM-FM (97.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is owned by the Salem Media Group and airs a country music radio format. The studios and offices are in Honolulu's Kalihi district. KHCM-FM carries ''Bob Kingsley's Country Top 40'' on Saturdays. KHCM-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 80,000 watts. The transmitter is in the Ala Moana neighborhood atop the Ala Moana Hotel, on Atkinson Drive. KHCM (880 kHz) is a Chinese-Language AM radio station serving Honolulu, Hawaii. The Salem Media Group outlet broadcasts with a power level of 2 kW. Its studios are in Honolulu's Kalihi district, and its transmitter is in the Kakaako neighborhood. History KHCM's history can be traced back to its days on 870 kHz as KAIM, whose previous format was Religious programming. When Salem bought the station in 2000, it wanted to sign the station off the air so it can allow its sister station in Los Angeles, California, to increase its signal coverage. In the music industry, the Top 40 is the current, 40 most-popular songs in a particular genre. It is the best-selling or most frequently broadcast popular music. Aiea (; haw, ʻAiea, ) is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the CDP had a total population of 9,338.
