KHCM (AM)
KHCM (880 kHz) is a Chinese-Language AM radio station serving Honolulu, Hawaii. The Salem Media Group outlet broadcasts with a power level of 2 kW. Its studios are in Honolulu's Kalihi district, and its transmitter is in the Kakaako neighborhood. History KHCM's history can be traced back to its days on 870 kHz as KAIM, whose previous format was Religious programming. When Salem bought the station in 2000, it wanted to sign the station off the air so it can allow its sister station in Los Angeles, California, to increase its signal coverage. At the last minute they decided to reduce the station's power, shift its frequency to 880 kHz and let the station stay on the air. In 2004 Salem bought Modern Rock outlet KPOI and flipped the format to an FM News/Talk outlet, its first in Hawaii. KAIM became its simulcast after the switch was made. KRLA
KRLA (870 kHz) "AM 870 The Answer" is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a talk radio format. Licensed to Glendale, California, it serves Greater Los Angeles and Southern California. The station is owned by Salem Media Group, which also owns 99.5 KKLA-FM which features a Christian talk and teaching format, and 95.9 KFSH-FM with a contemporary Christian music format. By day, KRLA transmits with 50,000 watts, the maximum for commercial AM stations. Since AM 870 is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A WWL New Orleans, KRLA must reduce power at sunset to 3,000 watts to reduce interference. It uses a directional antenna with a three-tower array. The transmitter is off El Reposo Drive in Los Angeles, near the Glendale Freeway.
