KFPH-DT (channel 13), branded as UniMás Arizona, is a television station licensed to Flagstaff, Arizona, United States, broadcasting the Spanish-language UniMás network to northern and central Arizona. It is owned and operated by TelevisaUnivision alongside Phoenix-based Univision outlet KTVW-DT (channel 33). In Flagstaff, Univision maintains offices on Fourth Street, though most operations are run from its Phoenix studios. The KFPH-DT transmitter is located atop Mormon Mountain, about south of Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest. In Phoenix, KFPH-DT is rebroadcast through KFPH-CD (channel 35). KHOT-FM (105.9 MHz) is a radio station licensed to Paradise Valley, Arizona. Carrying a Regional Mexican format, the station serves the Phoenix area. The station, owned by Univision, is known as "Que Buena 105.9". History KXLL/KBUQ KHOT signed on the air on July 19, 1996, carrying a country music format known as "Young Buck Country". Before the station was on the air, the call letters were KXLL. The call letters were changed shortly after sign on to KBUQ to complement the "Young Buck Country" branding. Attempts to put this station on the air had been ongoing for years prior to the 1996 sign-on. KOMR (106.3 FM) in Sun City, Arizona, is a Spanish AC radio station serving the Phoenix area. The Univision station, along with sister stations KQMR in Globe and KKMR in Arizona City, is known on-air as "Amor 106.3". History The first attempt of a radio station on 106.3 FM in Sun City was KTPM, which was on the air for less than seven months after signing on June 13, 1962. It was co-owned with Wickenburg's KAKA by Lowell Beer and Paul Mullenix. However, the station was one of the quickest failures in Arizona radio history; it went temporarily silent on January 2, 1963, never to return; the Beer-Mullenix licenses were placed into receivership in June and never reemerged. ATSC 3.0 is a major version of the ATSC standards for television broadcasting created by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC). In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. This distinguishes such a station from an affiliate, which is independently owned and carries network programming by contract. The concept of an O&O is clearly defined in the United States and Canada (and to some extent, several other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Japan), where network-owned stations had historically been the exception rather than the rule.
