KBXT
KBXT (101.9 FM, "The Beat") is a radio station broadcasting an Urban Contemporary music format. Licensed to Wixon Valley, Texas, United States, the station is currently owned by Brazos Valley Communications, Ltd. and features programming from American Urban Radio Networks. The station's studios are located in Bryan and its transmitter is located south of Hearne, Texas. History The station was assigned the call sign KPXQ on July 12, 1991. On December 27, 1993, the station changed its call sign to KLTR, on December 20, 1996 to KZTR, and on December 13, 2007, to the current KBXT. KZTR had originally signed on as an affiliate of Z-Rock in the mid '90s, moving toward classic rock when the network ceased operations. It took on a Top 40 format as "B-102" in November 1998, only to flip to Adult Contemporary as "101.9 The Valley" in 2001. Call Sign
In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose. KVJM
KVJM (103.1 FM; ''103-1 KISS-FM'') is a radio station playing Top 40 (CHR) music broadcasting from Bryan/College Station, Texas, and licensed to Hearne, Texas. Under the branding "103-1 Kiss FM", it is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station's studios are located at Galleria Village on Briarcrest Drive in Bryan, and its transmitter is located northwest of Bryan in nearby unincorporated Robertson County. History Before KVJM became its current format, it was home to the only Urban Contemporary formatted radio station in the Brazos Valley. Originally KHRN 94.3, the station was launched in 1984 as a part-time Spanish format by day and Urban format by night for ten years. KTAM (1240 AM) is an American radio station licensed to Bryan, Texas. The station airs a Regional Mexican music format, branded as "Radio Alegria". KTAM is owned and operated by Brazos Valley Communications, LLC. Z Rock was a nationally syndicated radio network based in Dallas, Texas, United States that, from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s, played heavy metal and hard rock music. The format was one of several 24-hour satellite-delivered music formats offered by the pioneering Satellite Music Network (a company which in 1989 merged with ABC Radio Networks and later became Cumulus Media Networks). Z Rock debuted on Labor Day in 1986 with WZRC in Chicago as its first affiliate. During its early days, Z Rock drew attention for playing unedited, explicit versions of songs.
