KMFY-FM (96.9 FM) is a radio station licensed to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. KMFY covers the counties of Itasca, Aitkin, Cass and western St. Louis. KMFY broadcasts local weather, sports, local news, and community events. History Originally KXGR, the radio station was sold to Bill and Carla Kirwin in 1989 by Mike and Mary Ives. KOZY is an oldies radio station broadcasting on 1320 AM in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. It is owned by Rapids Radio along with its sister stations, KMFY and KBAJ. The Super Cruiser The Super Cruiser is KOZY's promotional vehicle used in parades and on location reporting. Originally a 1971 Chevy Ambulance, It was retired and sold to KNNS-FM (Now KOZY's sister station, KMFY). Deer River is a city in Itasca County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 930 at the 2010 census. U.S. Highway 2 and Minnesota State Highways 6 and 46 are three of the main routes in the community. History Deer River has a site on the National Register of Historic Places, the Itasca Lumber Company Superintendent's House, built in 1904 by the leading lumber company in the area. Iron Range
The term Iron Range refers collectively or individually to a number of elongated iron-ore mining districts around Lake Superior in the United States and Canada. Much of the ore-bearing region lies alongside the range of granite hills formed by the Giants Range batholith. These cherty iron ore deposits are Precambrian in the Vermilion Range and middle Precambrian in the Mesabi and Cuyuna ranges, all in Minnesota. The Gogebic Range in Wisconsin and the Marquette Iron Range and Menominee Range in Michigan have similar characteristics and are of similar age. Natural ores and concentrates were produced from 1848 until the mid-1950s, when taconites and jaspers were concentrated and pelletized, and started to become the major source of iron production. KQDS-FM
KQDS-FM (94.9 FM, "95 KQDS") is a classic rock music formatted radio station located in Duluth, Minnesota. Established in 1976 as KAOH-FM, the station is owned by Midwest Communications, and follows a format similar to that of the well-known KQRS-FM in the Twin Cities. The studios are located in downtown Duluth, along with KDAL, KDAL-FM, KDKE, KTCO, WDSM, and WDUL. KQDS-FM is simulcast on WMFG-FM (106.3) in Hibbing. Prior to Midwest selling the stations, KQDS-FM was also simulcast on WXXZ (95.3 FM, now WFNX) in Grand Marais and KAOD (106.7 FM, now KZJZ) in Babbitt. KQ 95's main competitor is Townsquare Media's WWPE (92.1 FM).
