KAMY
Klima Action Malaysia (KAMY) is a Malaysian climate activist group that was started by a group of youths that is dedicated to empowering women, youth and marginalised communities. They were founded in 2019 and are one of the only grassroots climate activist groups in Malaysia. Aims The grassroots movement demands climate policies based on peace, equity and democracy urging politicians to take a stand on climate action. They have been actively involved in initiatives which includes multi-language advocacy, climate protests, capacity building workshops and community awareness since April 2019 in a effort to empower communities and reach a larger demographic. Activities Klima Action Malaysia organised the MY Climate Strike on 21 September 2019 as part of the Global Climate Strike that was held worldwide in the same month for a week. Global Climate Strike Of 20 September 2019
The September 2019 climate strikes, also known as the Global Week for Future, were a series of international strikes and protests to demand action be taken to address climate change, which took place from 20–27 September 2019. The strikes' key dates were 20 September, which was three days before the United Nations Climate Summit, and 27 September. The protests took place across 4,500 locations in 150 countries. The event is a part of the school strike for climate movement, inspired by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Climate Movement
The climate movement is a global social movement focused on pressuring governments and industry to take action (also called " climate action") addressing the causes and impacts of climate change. Environmental non-profit organizations have engaged in significant climate activism since the late 1980s and early 1990s, as they sought to influence the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Climate activism has become increasingly prominent over time, gaining significant momentum during the 2009 Copenhagen Summit and particularly following the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2016. A grassroots movement is one that uses the people in a given district, region or community as the basis for a political or economic movement. Grassroots movements and organizations use collective action from the local level to effect change at the local, regional, national or international level. Grassroots movements are associated with bottom-up, rather than top-down decision making, and are sometimes considered more natural or spontaneous than more traditional power structures. Grassroots movements, using self-organization, encourage community members to contribute by taking responsibility and action for their community. Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network, founded in Canada in 1971 by Irving Stowe and Dorothy Stowe, immigrant environmental activists from the United States. A die-in, sometimes known as a lie-in, is a form of protest in which participants simulate being dead. Die-ins are actions that have been used by a variety of protest groups on topics such as animal rights, anti-war, against traffic violence, human rights, AIDS, gun control, racism, and environmental issues. Often, protestors occupy an area for a short time instead of being forced to leave by the police. In the simplest form of a die-in, protesters simply lie down on the ground and pretend to be dead, sometimes covering themselves with signs or banners. Permaculture is an approach to land management and settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems.
