K. Bhaskaran
K. Bhaskaran is an Indian Carnatic music flautist. Early life K. Bhaskaran was born on 30 April 1961 to Lakshmi Krishnamurthi and K. Krishnamurthi, and brought up in Mylapore, in the city of Chennai. Bhaskaran started formally learning the flute from Mayavaram Saraswathi Ammal, popularly known as Mayavaram Papaa, when he was 10 years of age, after picking up the basics through family guidance. He performed his first public concert at the Madras Music Academy, on 26 September 1978. He also learnt from other ''vidwans'' formally, including S. Rajam and professor T. R. Subramanian of Delhi University. He had also undergone basic '' mridangam'' training for a brief period from Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyengar. He also has a long association with renowned flute maestro N. Carnatic Music
Carnatic music, known as or in the South Indian languages, is a system of music commonly associated with South India, including the modern Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and Sri Lanka. It is one of two main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu Texts and traditions, particularly the Samaveda. The other subgenre being Hindustani music, which emerged as a distinct form because of Persian or Islamic influences from Northern India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in ''gāyaki'' (singing) style. Saarang
Saarang (means ' Chital' or Spotted Deer in Sanskrit, a common sight on IIT Madras campus) is the annual social and cultural festival of IIT Madras. It is a 5 day long festival usually in the second week of the year. Founded in 1974, Saarang is the second oldest college festival in India. It was started in the name of 'Mardi Gras' with a small number of quizzes and music events. It adopted the name 'Saarang' and grew with the help of corporate sponsorship, collaboration with large-scale event organizers and international artists. Saarang is a not-for-profit, entirely student-run, ISO 9001:2015 organization. Murukku (Malayalam – മുറുക്ക്, Tamil – முறுக்கு) is a savoury, crunchy snack originating from the Indian subcontinent. Karnataka Ganakala Parishat
Karnataka Ganakala Parishat (also Ganakala Parishath) is an annual conference of Carnatic music held in February. The first conference was conducted in the year 1970 under the presidency of Vidwan B.S. Raja Iyengar. Over a period of several days (16 days in 2020), lecture demonstrations are given in the mornings, and four musical performances are given every afternoon and evening. The conference confers the title of "Ganakalabhushana" every year on a veteran musician, and "Ganakalashree" on a young musician. Since 2004, the conference has been presided over by Vidwan R.K. ''The New Indian Express'' is an Indian English-language broadsheet daily newspaper published by the Chennai-based Express Publications. It was founded in 1932 as ''The Indian Express'', under the ownership of Chennai-based P. Varadarajulu Naidu.
