Jus-Rol
Jus-Rol is a manufacturer of frozen pastry and related products, such as vol-au-vents. The company is owned by General Mills. The company began in 1954 in Coldstream, Scotland, when local baker, Mr Tom Forsythe, started selling "Just Roll" puff pastry to his customers. Jus-Rol used to have more than one factory – the other was located in Amble but was sold in the mid-to-late 1990s. In 1975 the business was sold to the food giant Fitch Lovell, before being sold off by Booker Group (the new owners of Fitch Lovell) in 1990 to Grand Metropolitan. In early 2007, the parent company of Jus-Rol, General Mills, acquired the Northamptonshire frozen pastry and pork pie company Saxby Bros Ltd, in a takeover bid. Saxby Bros Ltd
Saxby Bros Limited was a food manufacturing company based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, who manufactured pork pies, delicatessen, meat and pastry products. In 2007, the company was taken over by General Mills, which led to its closure a year later. The factory is now demolished and redeveloped for housing. History The company began as a butchery in 1904, by brothers Herbert and Ted Saxby, opened a shop to sell their meat and pies, which the carcasses were displayed hanging outside the shop frontage. Pies were handmade above the shop, and various meats were prepared in the kitchen. Herbert would catch the 3.17 am train to buy pigs at Smithfield Market in London at dawn, returning to Wellingborough to open the shop at 9am. Fitch Lovell was a British food manufacturing, transportation, distribution and retail company with origins dating to 1784, and was finally merged into Booker Group in 1991 after they had purchased it in 1990 for £279.7 million.
