Junior Rugby League In England
Rugby league is played at a school level in many schools in the rugby league heartlands of the traditional counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumberland; recently it has been introduced into some schools outside the traditional areas in particular in London, Essex and Hertfordshire. Thirty-three percent of schools across the UK offer rugby league as a school sport. Charlie Bray is the youth league representative on the Community Board. Young People's Advisory Panel The RFL launched the Young Peoples Advisory Panel in 2010, a group consisting of young people aged 16–25 from across England. The national panel meet three times a year at the RFL's Red Hall headquarters to discuss and debate the following: Changes in the structure of youth rugby; Communications between young rugby league enthusiasts and the RFL; RFL policies which impact on young people. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. It is one of the two codes of rugby football, the other being rugby union. Co-operative Championship
The Championship, known as the Betfred Championship for sponsorship reasons, is a professional rugby league competition. It is the Rugby Football League Championship Second Division, second-tier competition organised by the Rugby Football League, the governing body for the sport in England, and consists of 14 teams, with promotion to the Super League and relegation to the third-tier competition, RFL League 1, League One. The league announced a two-year sponsorship deal with the bookmaking company Betfred ahead of the 2018 RFL Championship, 2018 season. The current champions are Leigh Centurions, winners of the 2022 season after beating Batley Bulldogs in the Million Pound Game to win promotion to Super League 2023. Midlands Junior League
The Midlands Junior League is an age group rugby league development competition for clubs in the English Midlands. It is run by the Midlands Rugby League. Many of the teams taking part also run open-age sides in the Rugby League Conference or Midlands Rugby League. History The adult ''Midlands Merit League'' was founded in late 2005 to support the growth of rugby league in non-heartland areas. The 2007 season saw the introduction of an informal under-15 league ''Midlands Junior League'' based on Merit League principles. In 2008 the junior competition featured under-14 and under-16 divisions. Lancashire ( , ; abbreviated Lancs) is the name of a historic county, ceremonial county, and non-metropolitan county in North West England. The boundaries of these three areas differ significantly. The non-metropolitan county of Lancashire was created by the Local Government Act 1972. It is administered by Lancashire County Council, based in Preston, and twelve district councils. Although Lancaster is still considered the county town, Preston is the administrative centre of the non-metropolitan county. Gilette National Youth League
The Gilette National Youth League was a British rugby league tournament at under-18 level. It was previously known as the Halifax Home Insurance National Youth League. It is the second-tier competition at under-18s. The top level is the Gilette Academy Championship, which in 2009 consists of the under-18 team of the twelve English based Super League teams and also of Championship clubs Widnes Vikings and Sheffield Eagles. It was administered by the British Amateur Rugby League Association. In 2011 it switched to summer as the Conference Youth League. British Amateur Rugby League Association
The British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) is an association for social and recreational rugby league. It works jointly with the Rugby Football League through the RFL Community Board. History BARLA was created in 1973 in Huddersfield at the George Hotel by a group of enthusiasts concerned about the dramatic disappearance of many amateur leagues and clubs. Fewer than 150 amateur teams remained with a mere thirty youth rugby league teams. The 'breakaway' from the RFL was acrimonious and was strongly contested with a vote 29–1 against recognising BARLA. Thanks to Tom Mitchell, this changed to a unanimous vote of approval for BARLA within twelve months. The Champion Colleges is a rugby league football competition administered by the University and College Rugby League (formerly the ''Student Rugby League''). It is open to teams in the 12-13 year groups at Sixth Forms and Further Education (FE) Colleges in the UK. The competition determines regional and national champions. Regional stages take place in Yorkshire, the North West, Cumbria, Midlands, London and the South and Wales between February and March and the national stages running consecutively through to May. The Champion Schools tournament (known as the Carnegie Champion Schools due to sponsorship) is a full contact knock-out rugby league football competition open to every secondary school in England, Scotland and Wales and is the largest rugby league tournament in the World "RFL-13-05-07" The competition is operated by the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the English Schools Rugby League (ESRL). Rugby league nines (or simply nines) is a version of rugby league football played with nine players on each side. The game is substantially the same as full rugby league, with some differences in rules and shorter games. Nines is usually played in festivals, as its shorter game play allows for a tournament to be completed in a day or over a single weekend.
